Gorky Park (Rostov-on-Don) is a gift to contemporaries from all previous generations of citizens who have been caring for their favorite vacation spot for 200 years.

History

Gorky Park (Rostov-on-Don) was established in 1813 on the basis of the gardens of the city head A. Yashchenko, which he transferred to the city as a gift. Efforts of several public organizations were laid alleys, an infrastructure was created, flower gardens were planted, gazebos were built. Originally the park consisted of several small landscaped gardens, the association occurred in 1890. Approximately in this period, the upper and lower parks were formed, which received the common name "flower beds".

Since 1840, the first wooden city theater was working in the garden along Kuznetskaya Street, a few years later the Rotunda club was built, also made of wood, a stone building for the club was built in 1893. From the side of Bolshaya Sadovaya Street, the park was decorated with an open platform. At the end of the 19th century, architect N. Doroshenko designed an openwork lattice for the park, which the city authorities established for everyone's pleasure.

The fountain, the work of architect V. Shpitko, appeared in the park in 1894 and has survived to this day. On the middle park terrace was arranged a swimming pool, surrounded by elegant gazebos and sculptural compositions. The lower part of the recreation area was equipped with fountains, a grotto and a pond where swans settled. Flowerbeds and lawns regularly changed their pattern, creating a fashion for flower beds on a city scale. Surprising public were decorative overseas plants - cypresses, tamariski, etc. A major reconstruction took place in the park after the revolution in 1926-1927.

Description

During the war, Gorky Park (Rostov-on-Don) suffered great destruction. Restoration was in the post-war forties and fifties. The active participation in the works and planning of the recreation area was taken by the artist A. Chernovol. From its submission, flower arrangements were made, posters for festive dates, special care of the master and love of the townspeople were used by a calendar carpet, created from flowering plants.

Today, Maxim Gorky Park (Rostov-on-Don) continues to be a favorite vacation spot for most citizens. Monuments in the park

Gorky Park has been living for more than 200 years, time and people have not always been affectionate towards it, but in the alleys and corners the memory of many generations of citizens hides. The park's terraces change little with the arrival of new times, but retain many of the signs of the past, one of them are monuments. At the central entrance, on the pedestal, stands the bronze figure of the leader of the world proletariat, VI. Lenin. On the opposite end of the park there is a monument to the Heroes of the October Revolution.

Times have changed, and now in the 2000's there is a city sculpture of a completely different kind. In 2007, on one of the alleys, a sculpture of a barefooted flower girl appeared, nicknamed by the townspeople "a girl with ice cream".

Mr. Baikov, one of the best city heads, grateful descendants as a sign of respect established the monument in 2013. It is located in front of the entrance to the park from the side of the city administration. The famous mayor is known for his administrative talent. His concerns in the city were established a library, a stock exchange, several educational institutions were founded. With it, a water pipeline was laid, streets were illuminated, a fire brigade was working, public transport was launched, telephone communication was carried out, and much more.

On one side of the central entrance to the park is a picturesque monument to a remote merchant-peddler and his cat. The monument was installed not so long ago, but overgrown with signs and legends. It is believed that if you throw a coin in a box, then the donor is waiting for financial success, and if you stroke a cat hollow clothes, then there will be luck in the endeavors.

The park is open every day. In special honor it is on holidays, which are celebrated widely in Rostov. The main events are New Year celebrations, when Christmas trees are being established (Rostov-on-Don).
