Gmsd_ru: what is this file?

Today, the penetration of advertising and the "wishes" of installing new software, in principle, have become commonplace. But recently some kind of incomprehensible service Gmsd_ru has become quite active. What is it, we'll try to find out now. At the same time, we will give some recommendations on how to resolve the problem.

Gmsd_ru: what is this process?

First of all, it is necessary to understand that some incomprehensible process, present at the work of the system itself, is not always a threat. To such, in principle, and refers to the service Gmsd_ru. What it is and how it works, we'll see now.

As for the process itself, even if you call the standard Task Manager with a standard three-finger combination or by using the taskmgr command in the Run (Win + R) menu, as well as from the command line in the active processes tree, you can see several versions of the service.

This can be, for example, Gmsd_en 005010122, a process with codes like 141, 143, 26, etc. The situation as a whole does not change. All these "useful" services are disguised as system services, but in fact carry a rather strong threat to the computer and the operating system itself.

A virus or advertising?

Now consider in more detail, for example, the process Gmsd_en 141. What it is, now it becomes clear.

In itself, this component in the usual sense of the virus is not. It is rather an applet, responsible for the process of redirecting the user when surfing the World Wide Web on pre-defined resources. The situation is that the service clones some links (for example, on popular social networks), and then makes a redirect to the site-clone, which is pure phantom water. But! During the redirection, the service installs as many additional components and links as you can go crazy.

Accompanying Components

Who among us has not seen the same advertising on the mail server Mail.ru with the offer of installing the browser "Amigo"? Officially the site declares that it is by far the fastest and has integration with most popular services on the Web.

Trusted users hurry to take advantage of this, then for some reason on the desktop, and then in the quick launch panel , icons like "Classmates", "VKontakte", "Mail.ru Search", "Mail.ru Sputnik" and so on appear. Etc. This is that neither is the real "worms", which are able to strongly affect the system as a whole.

A simple example: quite recently the resource of Mail.ru lost the lawsuit related to the spread of spam and advertising of this type. All these services, which are installed without user intervention in automatic mode, have been recognized as components that are commonly referred to as Adware, Spyware or Malware.

Of course, the process does not have much influence on the system (it does not delete system files, does not change the basic configuration, etc.). However, in most cases, the settings of the Internet browser are changed (not only that which is set by default), after which, roughly speaking, the monitoring of user actions on the Internet begins.

The saddest thing is that many users agree with the installation of a "fast" browser called Kometa. With all this, it's not so easy to delete the browser itself and the accompanying elements.

And here Kometa Browser?

It is worthwhile to understand that Gmsd_ru is a dependent component that is activated when certain types of software are installed . The browser itself is almost the most important part of this whole process.

It is built on the basis of Chromium, but, as already clear, far from perfect. In general, we should take into account the moment that he is, if not a sibling, then certainly a partner of some widely distributed services. First of all, this applies to the GamesDesktop applet 033.005010122 (from where, actually, the version itself happens). But that's not all. The fact is that some additional components can be installed along the way: WordWizard 1.10.0.24, Crossbrowse, HP Defender, SmartWeb, MyBrowser 1.0.2V21.10 and many others. As already clear, this must be combated by the most cardinal methods.

How can I safely remove the Gmsd_en.exe process of any modification?

So, now more. We have an installed service with processes of all modifications, conditionally called Gmsd_ru. What is it, we sorted out a little. Now let's see how to get rid of this infection.

The first problem is that in the standard list of installed programs (meaning Windows of any version), such processes, as well as additional components, may simply not be displayed.

In this case, it is recommended to use third-party utilities such as iObit Uninstaller, after completing absolutely all processes in the "Task Manager" regarding the above service. Usually the process has a designation like Gmsd_en_30.exe, Gmsd_en_143.exe, gamesdesktop_widget.exe, Gmsd_en * 32, etc. It is necessary to force all services to be terminated using the corresponding button at the bottom right.

Now you can proceed with the deletion. As already mentioned, in the standard list of installed applications, such components may not be displayed. If iObit Uninstaller is installed, you can even not delete icons and icons from the desktop or Quick Launch toolbar. Simply right-click the program menu and use the Powerful Uninstall option (the uninstaller itself is integrated into the context menu).

When you delete everything and everything using standard tools, the application will search for residual components in the form of undelete files and folders, and will offer to completely clear the system registry keys. We agree and close the program.

Now it follows that it is called, to clean the system, and the most it concerns autorun. To do this, use the CCleaner pact of the stationary version. Why? Yes, only because, as practice shows, no other application can cope with this. Other programs remove the startup items only for a while, after which they are activated again. After cleaning, we overload the system and rejoice.

What in the end?

Now we have dealt with incomprehensible processes with the common identification of Gmsd_ru. That this, I think, is already clear. How to remove all this "junk" is also known. The only thing that has to pay attention to the final user, so this is the choice of appropriate utilities. Note that neither Advanced System Care, nor AVG PC Tune Up, nor Asampoo WinOptimizer, nor Glary Utilities can cope with such tasks. In this case, we did not consider the intervention in the system registry, because for an uninitiated user this can be fraught with negative consequences. However, the above methods help in 99% of the cases of a hundred. Yes! And do not forget that the site with the name Gmsd.ru in nature does not exist! So it's just pointless to go there.
