Fordis granules - signs, causes, treatment

Fordish granules - what is it, what are the signs of this ailment, possible causes of occurrence and existing methods of treatment? It is these issues that we will devote to the article.

General information

Fordish granules, or so-called seborrhoeic cysts, are sebaceous glands that appear as light pimples on the skin of the genital organs (penis, lips, etc.), as well as in the groin, in the lips, on the nipples, the mucous membrane of the mouth, and so forth. .

Historical reference

The name of such formations came from the name of the famous scientist Fordis, who described these cysts back in 1896. It should be especially noted that the Fordys grains never cause any harm to health. In addition, they are not contagious, not transmitted during physical contact and are considered quite normal formations. But at the same time there are cases when patients with such manifestations turn to doctors for help. However, this occurs only when the Fordis granules represent an appreciable cosmetic defect.

Causes

At the moment, scientists are still not completely clear why such granules are formed on the skin and mucous membranes. There is also no connection with seborrhea, because the name "seborrheic cysts" is only a defect in translation. It is best to call the Fordys granules on the labia and other parts of the body visible ducts of the sebaceous glands.

With regard to seborrhoea, a significant change in the composition of subcutaneous fat is observed in patients with this diagnosis. Later such a deviation leads to the fact that the ducts of the sebaceous gland are clogged, as a result of which cysts are formed, which in appearance look very much like Fordis granules. Treatment of this disease is reduced to the fact that the patient is prescribed various ointments and creams that contain sulfur, salicylic acid, and sometimes even hormones. In addition, with oily seborrhea, a doctor may recommend such drugs as "Chloralhydrate" and "Resorcin", as well as other medications used in the form of alcohol solutions.

It should be noted that Fordish granules on the penis, testicles and other places in most cases appear during puberty. This pattern pushed scientists to the fact that the cause of the appearance of seborrhoeic cysts is that the sebaceous glands in some people are located closer to the upper layer of the epidermis than it should be in the norm. Thus, since birth, the child has a special structure and arrangement of the ducts. But during puberty (about thirteen to sixteen years old) under the influence of hormones (most often we are talking about male sex hormones), some increase in gland activity occurs, resulting in a significant increase in salobration. This process leads to the fact that the so-called Fordis granules on the testicles or other parts of the body become visible.

By the way, these people have a significant increase in the number of ducts glands (sebaceous). In this regard, they are much more likely to form such cysts, because in this case, the secret of glands is not excreted, but accumulates inside the cavity, which ultimately leads to a cosmetic defect.

Appearance of granules

In order to distinguish Fordyse's granules from seborrhea, it is necessary to know exactly how they look. As is known, such cysts resemble small (about one or two millimeters in diameter), slightly convex spots of a yellowish white color, which are usually located in groups near the lip rim, in the glans penis, testicles, foreskin, on the mucous membranes of the cavity Mouth (sometimes even the eyes and eyelids), as well as on the skin of the large labia.

It is worth mentioning that such cysts are painless and numerous. It is almost impossible to get rid of them on their own. When pressing on the granules from the cavity, only a small amount of thick yellowish-white mass is released. After this, a slight bleeding occurs on the spot, forming a shallow hematoma around the granule. After some time, a similar formation appears on the site of the squashed cyst.

Varieties of granules

At present, Fordis granules are divided into two types:

  • Pearly nodules on the penis;
  • Fox-Fordis disease.

Consider the causes and features of such cysts in more detail.

Mother-of-pearl papules on the penis

Fordish granules on the foreskin are a variant of the norm. As the statistics show, such manifestations are found in almost thirty-five percent of the young sexes. These papules do not cause any harm to health, do not cause complications, and are never transmitted sexually. In medical practice, the presented problem has been studied little, and therefore there is simply no effective therapy for such manifestations to date.

By the way, experts also could not reveal the reason for the appearance of this variety. Although some scientists believe that these papules are formed as a result of excessive proliferation of the epithelium of the ducts of the sebaceous glands located on the penis. One can not ignore the fact that in some peoples practicing circumcision such formations are extremely rare. This fact is due to the fact that an increased amount of smegma and secret, which due to their chemical-physical properties irritate the epithelium of the penis and cause the growth of papules, are quickly washed off during hygiene procedures.

Fox-Fordis disease

Fordish granules on the lips (genital) represent an analogue of mother-of-pearl papules on the head of the penis, but only in women. The clinic of such a deviation is absolutely identical to the clinic of formations on testicles and foreskin. This lesion most often occurs in the apocrine sweat glands and is somewhat related to the genitourinary apparatus. The cause of the occurrence of Fox-Fordis disease in women lies in the endocrine origin. Such rashes usually occur on the pubis, in the crotch, underarm pits, around the nipples and on the large labia. As a rule, Fordis granules in women show up together with a mild skin itch, which is often intensified during menstruation. The course of this illness is long, but often everything spontaneously goes to forty years.

The differentiation of Fordis granules

Presented rashes, as well as their varieties (the disease of Fox-Fordis and papules on the penis) should be distinguished from such ailments:

  • Neurodermatitis;
  • Molluscum contagiosum ;
  • Flat red lichen;
  • Focal chronic eczema.

No additional diagnostic methods for setting a medical diagnosis, except for visual examination by a specialist, as well as exclusion of other diseases, is not required.

Treatment of granules

As it was said above, there is no official therapy for such a deviation at the moment. But still some experts are trying to find ways to solve this problem. Although this treatment is contradictory and unconfirmed.

As a rule, some doctors recommend using Retin-A cream and jojoba oil to eliminate this cosmetic defect . According to experts, such tools, with their continued use, remove fresh Fordis granules, and also prevent the possible emergence of new ones. As for old papules, they are quite successfully treated by cauterization with a laser.

Surgical removal of such rashes is almost never used, because this method is the most radical. Self-same removal of granules by conventional extrusion is absolutely unacceptable. This is due to the fact that such self-treatment can lead to a strong inflammatory process with further scarring of the skin.

It is also worth noting that the therapy of granules that form around the lip rim often comes down to permanent tattooing, as in many cases such localization is an aesthetic problem. At the same time, by the age of thirty, most of these elements lose their convexity and brightness, and they also become less noticeable. This fact is associated with a certain decrease in the formation of sex hormones and the activity of the sebaceous glands.
