When buying, preference should be given to well-known manufacturers with a good reputation, then a foam mattress will serve for a long time and effectively.

The production of this filler is economical, so it is worth buying a cheap foam mattress if you want to buy a thing that is not inferior in quality to more expensive models for little money.

Making a foam mattress with your own hands

Do not rush into the furniture store in order to purchase such an accessory for recreation. The technology of manufacturing this object is so simple that it will not be difficult to make a foam mattress with your own hands.

This will require: foam rubber, cloth for a cover, a sewing machine, scissors, thread, needles.

First, the mattress is marked on a piece of foam rubber. Then, accordingly, a pattern is made on the fabric intended for the cover, while a few centimeters should be left on the allowances and seams. This cover is sewn for a mattress on a sewing machine and put on a prepared foam. For more convenient use it is recommended to sew a zipper in it.

The main role of the cover is to protect the filler from external influences (contamination, wiping, moisture penetration). But, in order to give the mattress a more respectable and aesthetic appearance, the coating fabric should not only be well worn, but also have a pleasant texture and beautiful coloring.

Which mattress is better - wadded or foam rubber

Both wadded and foam products are in approximately the same price category. They also have many similar positive qualities - lightness, compactness, convenience in transportation. A significant difference is the fact that in a cotton mattress there is a possibility of the emergence of all sorts of microorganisms and ticks. This is not safe for health, especially people prone to allergies. Over time, the foam mattress can be deformed, and the filler of cotton wool is usually stuck in lumps.

In military units, medical and children's institutions, preference is given mainly to mattresses with foam filler, because it is the most safe for health and easy to care for. Due to these properties it is also recommended to use such accessories for prams.

Care instructions

To ensure that the filler in the mattress is distributed correctly, the first 3-4 months it should be turned every 2 weeks. Then you can do this once every 3 months.

Monthly, the mattress should be ventilated, leaving it on air for at least 5 hours. Cleaning is easily done with a conventional vacuum cleaner. If there are any small spots - this will help the sponge, moistened in any cleaning agent for upholstery or soap solution. If the contamination is serious enough, then dry cleaning is required when special cleaning agents are used for such materials. If water gets on the mattress, wipe it with a dry cloth and dry it thoroughly. Only after this you can cover with linen.

Foam rubber absorbs odors very well. This should be taken into account when carrying out repairs, disinfections and other activities involving the use of strong odorants. The surface of the mattress in such cases is better wrapped with a coating that does not allow air to pass through.
