Flag of Morocco: description and history. The coat of arms of Morocco

The main attributes of the state are the flag and the coat of arms. Their description and application is fixed by the main law of the country - the constitution. Many modern flags of different states differ significantly from ancient cloths. Such changes occurred during historical events, when the territory, administrative division, state system and traditions of the state changed.

This article describes in detail the flag of Morocco, its history. We will also consider the arms of this state.

Appearance

The official flag of Morocco is a rectangular cloth. The ratio of width and length is 2: 3, respectively. The whole field of the flag is filled with a uniform dark red color. In the middle of the panel is a pentagram (five-pointed star) of green color with a black outline. The star is conventionally inscribed in a circle whose diameter is 1/3 of the width of the flag.

The red color has several meanings. First of all, it is a symbol of religious leaders (sheriffs) of the holy cities of Islam - Mecca and Medina. "Sheriff" from Arabic translates "noble ruler." Also this color reflects the origin of the members of the royal dynasty from the prophet. According to Moroccan beliefs, the blood color symbolizes courage and fearlessness.

The green pentagram in the center of the cloth signifies the connection between Allah and the people. It is also called the seal of Solomon.

The Moroccan flag in general looks exactly the same as the official flag, only in the upper left corner of the panel is decorated with a golden crown with a star above it.

History

The modern appearance of the flag of the Kingdom of Morocco is fixed legislatively in 1915, on November 17.

The very first mention of the Moroccan flag in history dates back to the 11th century. Then the symbol of the state was a red cloth, in the center of which was inscribed a square of 64 white and black cells arranged in checkerboard pattern. This banner reigned over the Kingdom until the end of the 13th century.

After that, for several centuries until our time, the flag of Morocco was a pure cloth of blood-red color. Already at the beginning of the 20th century a "seal of Solomon" appeared on the dark red field.

National emblem

The modern royal coat of arms was approved in 1957, on August 14. It is decorated in the form of a decorative shield, which on the left and right are supported by two powerful lions standing on their hind legs. The main color of the shield is also red, in the middle is depicted a green pentagram above which the sun rises, illuminating the stylized Atlas mountains. The coat of arms crowns the crown, and below it there is an inscription in Arabic from the Koran: "If you help Allah, he will help you."

Residents of Morocco, whose flag and coat of arms are described above, piously honor their symbols, which are not only state, but also religious symbols.
