Childhood

The native land of Nikolai Ivanovich is a small village of Novye Verysy (Republic of Mordovia). In a large family of Merkushkins on February 5, 1951, a son was born, who became one of eight children. My mother worked all her life on the collective farm. My father worked in the military factory during the war years, and then headed the collective farm. As chairman, he built a school where his own children were educated. And the Samara region is three times as big as Mordovia in terms of population and in two - in occupied territory. In the region with a unique industrial potential and a difficult situation in Togliatti, depending on the work of AvtoVAZ, the United Russia party did not enjoy unequivocal support.

Mordovia in the elections provided up to 85% of the votes for the EP, which in the eyes of the people was personified by Nikolai Merkushkin. In 2014, he even resigned his authority to go through the election procedure. In two years he managed to gain such authority that he collected more than 91% of votes in his support.
