Enterovirus infection is an insidious disease

Viruses that give rise to enterovirus infection were first discovered in the 1950s of the twentieth century. These are viruses that cause acute infectious diseases, characterized by a variety of clinical manifestations, often completely different from each other. Enterovirus infection is similar to some other infectious diseases.

The group at high risk includes children, especially the first year of life, however, the likelihood of the disease in children under 10 years is also high. Adults suffer from enterovirus diseases much less often.

Because of the variety of causative agents and the forms of its course Enterovirus infection does not give immunity, like, for example, measles or rubella, which after having been ill once you can not be afraid of repetition.

The most known form of this infection is enteroviral diarrhea and this often confuses parents who consider diarrhea a symptom of poisoning. Indeed, infection can occur through food or infected water, but the main source of infection is the children's collectives.

Enterovirus infection is usually spread by contact or airborne droplets. Infection microbes are extremely stable and die only at boiling, from ultraviolet irradiation or exposure to disinfectant solutions. The main danger of enteroviral diarrhea is dehydration of the body, so when a baby's vomiting occurs, even at low temperatures, vomiting or diarrhea, hospitalization is necessary.

Enterovirus infection: symptoms

The incubation period of enterovirus lasts from 2 to 10 days. Infections can occur in different people in completely different ways, not having at times even distant similarities. In most cases, signs manifest in the form of fever, chills, fever, nausea, headache, vomiting. But sometimes enterovirus infection affects human organs and tissues: heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, central nervous system, etc. The most severe form of its manifestation is serous meningitis, which is accompanied by vomiting, fever, severe headaches. With the timely treatment of the disease after 7-10 days ends with recovery without complications and residual phenomena, so when suspected of serous meningitis is extremely important timely hospitalization of the patient.

Other manifestations of infection can be severe joint and muscle pains, loose stools with spasms and abdominal pain, herpetic sore throat (small ulcers and bubbles in the throat), fever with rashes on the mucous membranes and skin, eye diseases with inflammation and redness of the eye Apple, etc. Symptoms of the disease depend more on the individual characteristics and age of the patient than on the serotype of the pathogen, so that the final diagnosis can not be made on the basis of signs alone.

Enterovirus infection: treatment

Specific treatment of infection because of the variety of clinical manifestations does not exist. Therapy of the disease depends on the causes and conditions of its occurrence and on the observed symptoms. To increase the body's resistance to the action of viruses, interferons are used, and immunoglobulins are recommended to increase immunity. The remaining drugs, in accordance with the signs of the disease, will appoint a doctor.

If an enterovirus infection Without complications, treatment can be carried out at home. The patient is prescribed a mandatory bed rest, light food, abundant drink. It is necessary to observe a certain diet, excluding from the diet products that can aggravate the infection in the stomach.
