Elite Moscow Synagogue in Maryina Roshcha

The synagogue in Maryina Roshcha is an elite Moscow synagogue. It is located in the North-East district of the capital. The synagogue is known to the general public for the fact that in Soviet times it was considered to be the only synagogue that did not recognize any gods.

History of the Moscow Synagogue

Since the 19th century, the Maryina Grove microdistrict has been the refuge of the Jews. But for quite a long time they did not have their own synagogue. Only in 1926 an old house of logs was built in this area. For many years of Judaic spiritual life, he became the official Jewish center. Before the emigration in the synagogue, the Lubavich Rebbe Schneerson lived. He never deprived the attention of Soviet Jews. Very often he sent them sluchim with finances, spiritual books, minors and implements of prayerful use. Throughout Soviet rule, the Synagogue in Maryina Roshcha supplied all Moscow Jews with money.

Employees of the center were engaged in the education of the younger generation in the national spiritual traditions. Children's recreation camps were opened by Jews. In 1988 a yeshiva was opened at the synagogue. To date, this organization is considered a religious Jewish university - a symbol of the revival of Judaism. Since 1991, with the assistance of the synagogue, the world-famous magazine Lechaim has been issued.

Serious setbacks

In 1993, the log-built synagogue in the Marina Grove burned down. The fire completely destroyed sacred books, inventory, furniture and the building itself. The only survivor of the Ark of the Covenant, which was found on the remains of the ashes. His pages were untouched by neither water nor a terrible fire. Inspired by such an inexplicable miracle, the Jews began building a new, more equipped synagogue. And in 1996 (three years after the fire) the new building opened its doors for the parishioners. The building was amazingly beautiful due to stained glass windows and spiritual heritage.

But this did not stop the trouble. In the same year, the building was damaged by a strong explosion. And two years later, in 1998, a new bomb exploded in the new synagogue, which completely destroyed the entire northeastern wall. But after the first explosion, the Jews started building a new building. So when the explosion destroyed the main synagogue, the Jews already had a new home. Now here is the spiritual center of the Bukharian Jews. The building is restored and decorated with beautiful stained-glass windows.

The new building of the Synagogue

In 2000 the Synagogue in Maryina Roshcha Boasted a new 7-story building. On September 18, on the eve of New 5761, the grand opening of the MECC took place. The building was built according to the sketches of Israel Godovic, an Israeli architect from Tel Aviv. The interior designer was Gadi Alperin. As a sacred attribute for the decoration of the facade, the Jerusalem stone was used. It was from this material that the Holy Wailing Wall was built .

To date, the prayer hall can accommodate more than 2,000 people. Various celebrations, celebrations and events take place here. On the territory of the center there is a library with sacred books, a kosher restaurant, a concert hall and an amazing art gallery. To date, Russian Jews do not want to remember the hard times and burnt buildings, on the site of which the Holy Synagogue (Maryina Roshcha) was erected.
