DPDG itself. Desensitization and processing by eye movement - a method of psychotherapy for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorders

How often happens that in appearance a healthy and prosperous person closes, becomes aggressive or, conversely, falls into a state of absolute indifference to everything that is happening around. And who did not feel the pressure of impending depression? This digging in yourself, failures on others without special reasons, a feeling of endless loneliness, panic attacks or constant anxiety, loss of interest in life, low self-esteem and much more.

Problems?

But there are also more serious psychological problems - the consequences of physical violence, child injuries, unhappy love, loss of loved ones, disaster, accident, humiliation, pressure and many other wounds. These injuries can not be cured with ointment, plaster, or plaster. About them somehow it is not customary to talk with family and friends. Yes, and in general in our country to engage in mental health is almost indecent. But if you want to improve your life, find peace and happiness, develop, learn to achieve your goals and be in harmony with yourself and the world around you, you should start by solving your personal problems. Today there is a proven and effective psychological technique that can be used even at home without risk to health and wasting time searching for a personal doctor-therapist.

The DPDG method (decoding)

F. Shapiro (USA) at the end of the twentieth century almost accidentally developed and began to apply in her practice a method that helps people in difficult life situations. She called it "desensitization and processing by the movement of the eyes." The essence of the method is to reduce the intensity of anxiety from stress by concentrating on the rhythmic movements of the eyeballs.

It is interesting that this approach to solving many psychological problems was not built on scientific assumptions, but rather arises from personal observations. Frensin Shapiro's experience (cancer, shattered dreams, loss of loved ones) and the almost accidentally found way out of stress led to the discovery of this technique. Assumptions about the cause of the effectiveness of the method appeared much later, after lengthy observations of patients and obtaining numerous positive results.

What is the method

During therapy, the psychiatrist makes movements by hand (or pointer), beyond which the patient must clearly follow. During the observation of movements, it is necessary to plunge into memories or imagine an alarming situation, to mentally talk to yourself or the person with whom the conflict has arisen (the course of these thoughts is controlled by the doctor, it all depends on the problem that needs to be solved). The first time of the sensation is extremely unpleasant, but after about 30 minutes of the first session, panic and fear attacks end and more positive thinking comes along, everything suddenly falls into place, anger goes away and memories no longer bring such pain. To fix the result, the procedure is usually performed several times.

Why it works

The main hypothesis that confirms why the method works is the idea that there is some mechanism that has not been thoroughly studied to process any incoming information. Stress, fright, pressure - all this knocks down this mechanism and does not allow it to work fully. And that event, which caused psychological trauma, remains unprocessed or is not processed to the end. Repeated eye movements magically set up the work of this system and mechanically force the psyche to process the old information. After this procedure, memories gradually fade, finding a neutral color.

Since similar rapid movements of the eyes a person produces only in a dream (during the phase of fast sleep), it is assumed that this very mechanism in reality reproduces the DPDH method. The reason for deciphering can be anything, only what matters is that it really works.

Where to apply

Most often, the DPPG method is used to recover after participating in hostilities, after violence, that is, for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorders. I also often recommend using this kind of psychotherapeutic influence for recovery after physical trauma, fighting with phobias, anxiety and obsessive conditions.

Russian doctor DPPG Kovalev recommends literature and video. This allows for light disorders to conduct sessions at home. However, F. Shapiro herself did not recommend herself to conduct DPPG sessions and considered the presence of a professional psychotherapist or psychologist to be necessary.

Advantages

Speed is one of the main advantages. Usually the number of sessions can be from 1 to 2 (in simple cases) to 6-16 (for heavy and neglected situations). It should be noted that for treatment of PTSD in sessions of ordinary psychotherapy, it is necessary to visit the doctor twice a week for at least 6 months, with the possible prescription of medications.

The next plus is the lack of medication. There are no risks. In the worst case, the method simply will not bring results.

There is no resistance of the patient. Very often the doctor has to "dig" for a long time to the essence of the problem in ordinary sessions. If you use the DPDG method, the transcript is virtually unnecessary. During the monitoring of eye movements, the client either remains silent and only mentally resides the situation, or answers the questions more relaxed and truthful, as part of the consciousness is busy. Therefore, the patient does not have resistance and fear of negative evaluation by the therapist.

Another plus is the ability to conduct DPDG sessions yourself or with the help of friends and family.

Security

This is not hypnosis, the method does not affect the psyche in any way. Since the client is in full consciousness and under the additional control of the doctor, something can not go so easily. The patient can always stop the session if he is not ready to experience events again today. And the therapist will notice, if the level of anxiety is too high, and will help to work on yourself more efficiently and quickly.

The whole procedure is carried out according to the protocol, it is honed and standardized by leading experts in the field of psychological counseling. This provides additional security and guarantees the result.

DPDG independently

Before starting a session at home without the help of a specialist, you need:

  • Create an atmosphere - remove all unnecessary and tune in to devote yourself these 30-90 minutes;
  • Find a special video to work out the movements of the eyes (it is more convenient if it is just moving on a certain amplitude point on a dark screen);
  • Before starting to work, you need to recall in detail or imagine a situation, a person, fear or pain - all that is disturbing today.

Then you can turn on the video and follow the eyes carefully throughout the entire session without making head movements, behind the dot on the screen / pointer / pen cap. Think about the exciting situation, mentally ask yourself questions and look for answers, get angry if you want to, try to understand what really happened and that now it does not threaten in any way, determine what are the goals today and what needs to be done tomorrow to achieve them.

DPDG itself - it's not so difficult. And even if this technique is not used in our country and is not even part of the standard for the treatment of PTSD, but the experience of doctors in Israel, the United States, Great Britain, and numerous studies using magnetic resonance imaging prove its effectiveness and safety even for home use.
