Do mermaids exist?

Mermaids are mythical creatures, about whom many legends have been formed for several centuries. These creatures, not women or spirits, were described in many literary works. And, apparently, not on an empty place, these fictions and legends appeared.

In different sources and among different peoples, mermaids were described in different ways. But more often than not, they were beautiful young women with a human body to the waist, and below them they had a fish tail. Although there are descriptions of mermaids resembling a man completely. Mermaids live in the lake, in other reservoirs or on trees, there are those who live in fields, so-called field mermaids.

Nobody can say for sure: do mermaids exist?

The image of mermaids has always been colored by negative emotions, because they belonged to the world of the dead and tried to involve living people, more often men, into their world. Mermaids stopped travelers, attracted them with their beauty, their voice, and then dragged them into the water and sank them. Mermaids and water-lovers are mythical beings who supposedly were in some kind of union, since they lived in one place.

The mermaids seemed to everyone in the form of beautiful women with loose hair. In the Eastern Slavs, they were called pitchfork, and in West European - undines. Sometimes they were described as ugly shaggy women who killed the lost people, and also dragged those who bathed at the wrong time in the wrong place.

According to Old Russian legends, dead girls turned into mermaids, who were not baptized or drowned in life.

Mermaid can be a man, but this is less common.

So, do mermaids exist ?

In some reports from ancient times, descriptions of encounters with melaka-like incomprehensible creatures have been preserved . It is preserved in the chronicle and is presented as a real story. However, the facts claiming that these mythical creatures are not fiction does not exist.

A similar theory was put forward by scientists oceanologists. They said that many marine animals, with a certain refraction of light and in some positions, look like a semi-human half-fish. For example, marine sirens, manatees, pinnipeds, etc.

There have been recorded in the history of facts and falsifications of corpses of mermaids.
