Today within the Dnieper (Dnepropetrovsk), founded in 1776, is home to about a million people. It is quite a harsh city with large industrial enterprises, bridges, massive buildings and universities.
In administrative terms, the Dnieper is divided into eight districts. Five of them are on the right bank of the river: Central, Novokodaksky, Soborny, Shevchenkovsky and Chechelevsky, and three more on the left bank (Amur-Nizhnedneprovsky, Samara and Industrial region).

He is considered the oldest of all. Another interesting feature: all the renamed districts of the city are located exclusively on the right bank of the Dnieper.
Novokodaksky district is the oldest
In 1920, the Novokodaksky (Leninsky) district was established. Dnepropetrovsk at that time was developing at a rapid pace: old ones were being restored and new factories were being built, educational buildings and cultural centers were built. It was within this region at the end of the 19th century that the center of all Ukrainian metallurgy was located.
After the end of the Second World War, in Novokodaksky district of Dnipropetrovsk three huge sleeping areas grew up: Kommunar, Sail and Red Stone. Today in its limits are the most important enterprises of the city's iron and steel industry: DZMO, Petrovsky and him. Lenin.
On Chechelovka there is a unique building - a huge in size the Palace of Ilyich. It was built in 1928 and is an architectural monument of national importance. The building is a vivid example of Soviet constructivism - an architectural style that was popular in the 20-30s of the last century.
Industrial District: History and Features
The industrial area occupies a relatively small area in the northern part of the city. The largest residential areas within its borders are Klochko and Levoberezhny-3. Until the 1920s, in the place of the modern region, there was a village with the strange name Sultanovka, which arose in connection with the rapid development of industry in Yekaterinoslav.
After the war, multi-storey residential buildings are being actively built on the sand deposits of the river. In 1969, the Industrial District was established in its present borders.
The district name fully justifies itself: 18 large enterprises are concentrated here, which represent practically the entire spectrum of Ukrainian industry. Their products are known far beyond not only the city, but also Ukraine. Among the most famous enterprises of the region: Interpipe Steel, Dneprometiz OJSC, Dnipro garment factory and others.
On the territory of the complex "Interpipe Steel" is one of the most interesting monuments of the city. This is a grandiose installation in the form of a huge artificial sun. The height of the monument is 60 meters. The author of the project was the famous artist Olafur Eliasson.
