At the same time, nobody wanted to shoot small animals like a squirrel from a smoothbore. So the spread began to receive short-barreled hunting weapons, which in the mid-70's became large-caliber, which opened the possibility of firing at a large beast.

Development

The demand for hunting pistols appeared, and the pistols were very few. As for the revolvers, although they were very reliable, they were still revolvers. Seeing the market's interest in a powerful large-caliber pistol, Magnum Research company engaged in the development of such weapons. The firm unambiguously decided that the new pistol should work with a cartridge of 357 Magnum. The ammunition was very powerful, so it did not fit the classic scheme of pistol automatics. To solve this problem, the designers had to work hard. As a result, they found a way out - the use of a gas-discharge circuit similar to those used for rifles.

In many sources one can find information that the system was created not by the Americans, but by the Israelis, but this is not so. They will take part in the production of the "Desert Eagle" a little later. In 1980, the device was patented, and a year later the first test "Digl" appeared. The gun in total created a little less than three years. Despite such a long work, the pilot samples of "Digla" showed that the designers still have something to work on. The weapon required very serious modifications, it was capricious in exploitation and had a small resource.

After the first unsuccessful tests, the Israeli company Israel Military Industries (IMI) joined the work on a powerful pistol. The Israelis were able to bring the pistol to acceptable parameters. And this, as a rule, is even more labor-intensive than creating a fundamentally new model. Therefore, to neglect their services in the creation of "Digla" would be extremely incorrect. It took about a year to finish the gun. As a result, the long-awaited Eagle 327 appeared on the market. The first modernization

In 1985, the Eagle pistol survived the first restyling. It began to be equipped with a barrel with a polygonal cut. Second modernization

In the movie "Digl" enjoyed by many, but in life the police and special forces did not show a desire to seize it. However, it should be noted that if we compare the impact of "Digla" with the return of revolvers of the same caliber, our hero will, of course, be softer. Automation

"Digl" is a pistol with serious dimensions and more than a serious cartridge. But for many gunsmiths this is not its main feature. Automatics of the pistol have no analogues among the serially produced models of short-barrel weapons - that's what is really interesting. The automation of the "Desert Eagle" works according to the scheme for removing powder gases from the barrel channel. It was thanks to this decision that it became possible to use such powerful ammunition.

The gun has a special opening near the chamber. During the shot, a part of the powder gases leaves the barrel through it and begins to press the piston. The piston, in turn, transmits the impulse to the shutter frame. Moving backwards, the bolt turns and unlocks the barrel channel locked with four stops. Then, the spent cartridge case and the cocking platoon are ejected.

With the return movement, the new cartridge is sent to the chamber, the bolt is rotated again, thereby locking the barrel bore. After that, the weapon is ready for a new shot. Interesting is the fact that the gassing and the trunk are made in the form of one piece. This positively affects the reliability of the gun and its durability. However, this design solution has a disadvantage. The fact is that this gun is not recommended for use with bullets, the shell of which ends before the narrowing begins. In this case, the gas outlet can be lead, and it is rather inconvenient to clean it.

357 Magnum

The ammunition was developed by Smith & Wesson as a replacement for the outdated 38 Special cartridge used by the police. Despite the fact that the difference in caliber from the name of ammunition, they shoot the same bullets. Such a measure was taken to avoid confusion. The present diameter of the cartridges is 9.12 mm. The new ammunition differs from the old one only in the length of the sleeve (34.77 mm), which allowed to increase the amount of powder and set the pool to 800 J of kinetic energy.

44 Magnum

This ammunition was never military and was made exclusively for hunting. It was created in 1955 as a powerful alternative to the 357th. In short weapons, the 44th is used, as a rule, for self-defense against wild animals. But if you equip this rifle with a rifle or a rifle, then it goes to a higher level and is recognized as a high-precision ammunition for hunting. Depending on the length, the brand of gunpowder, the type of bullet, and the length of the barrel of the weapon, the energy of the cartridge varies between 900-2200 J.

50 AE
