Interlingual communication, education and culture, practical and scientific research in the field of the humanities are all the work of philologists. This profession is very ancient. Day of the philologist is a relatively new holiday. But this area of knowledge is rooted in the distant past. In the 17-18 centuries it appeared as a science that studied ancient culture, as well as the history of language, literature, art and philosophy. It is said that it originated in ancient Greece and India, therefore the philology of Sanskrit, Latin and Greek languages is considered classical. In Russia, only in the middle of the 19th century did word science begin to be called philological. Only then did the interpretation of this science expand. It ceased to be understood only as a verbal object, and began to be regarded as a science that studies the language, history, literature and culture of peoples. Some works on philology for more than two and a half thousand years. In Greece and Rome, literature was a mandatory course in the curriculum. Studies of texts were conducted at all times. To some extent, people who studied languages were also historians, because from literature and language one could learn a lot of information about the past.

Philology was, one way or another, connected with religion, because it was studied most of all by the servants of the church. In addition to European philologists, under great pressure there were Arab representatives of this profession. Even today philology is developed only in those countries in which there is no pressure from the authorities. Without philologists, people would be illiterate, because teachers in schools instill love for literary works, which greatly expands our worldview. And would we know how to write competently if we were not taught this at school? That's why the philologist day is so important!

A philologist should be polite and cultured, because he sets an example for his students. The profession of a philologist is in no way dangerous and does not threaten others. However, in this profession, as in any other, there are some disadvantages. First of all, it's low salary. Perhaps that is why many people with philological education devote themselves to creativity: they write poems, songs and put their souls into communication with students.
