Why do people join in a group? What does it give to man?

A reasonable person does not live Earth for more than one thousand years. During this time, a lot has happened - whole empires and kingdoms were built and dropped, new states appeared, technologies developed actively. At the same time, if you look at the story from the side of an individual, you can see his desire to unite with others like himself.

Why do people join in groups? Social studies, studied by us even at school, gives fairly accurate, but incomplete answers, and therefore we will understand in more detail.

History of man

Before answering the question "What does the group give to man, society to the world, and the state to groups?", Let's look into the history of the existence of our civilization. Imagine a time when there were no states and a traditional society based on customs and distribution of roles. But even then people realized that they could not survive alone in this world - it was too dangerous, and there was a lot of benefit from uniting in the group. In addition, people have always sought to create a family - a biological need.

Next, we will try to understand the points, why people join in groups (it will be extremely difficult to briefly answer this question).

Evolution of Darwin

If guided by the works of the great scientist - Charles Darwin, then much will fall into place. Indeed, given the fact that primates were once our distant ancestors, we can explain even the modern desire for unification.

Primates try not to live alone, like many animals, they create flocks, the same can be seen in other representatives of the wild world - schools of fish and dolphins, lion prides, herds of herbivores, etc. But if we want to find out why people unite In a group, it will be necessary to understand why our distant ancestors did this. That is, what was always relevant, and what became important right now.

The Maslow Pyramid

The cornerstone for answering the questions posed by us is the so-called Maslow pyramid. It is by considering the needs of any living being, especially us and you, that we will be able to answer the questions - why do people unite in groups? What does the group give to man?

This pyramid consists of 5 steps, each of which is related to the previous one. According to the teaching, it is impossible to satisfy one's creative needs, while remaining, for example, hungry. That is, biological needs are the most important, fundamental element and one of the reasons why people are grouped together.

Biology

Now we will examine in more detail each of the steps of the pyramid. To begin with, let us take the biological needs of man. It was Maslow who called them the most important, because in their absence our life is either impossible or extremely painful. This is the primary reason why people are grouped together.

In general, the following needs are identified in the pyramid:

  • breath;
  • food;
  • drink;
  • sleep;
  • Maintaining the temperature;
  • Feces;
  • Sex drive.

Indeed, without a breath or water a person will not live long, which means that these are the elements of life that are necessary for everyone, regardless of physical data, status of the individual or even his material situation in the future. In our time, the rich and the poor need water. But what is the use of amalgamation? Why do people unite in groups, what does the group give to a person?

Society, like any association of people, is created to meet these needs. Let's return to the primitive time, where a man constantly felt himself in danger. To eat, he needed to hunt, and to make it much easier with someone, together. After all, wild animals could be much faster, bigger and stronger than humans.

Ensuring a safe sleep and maintaining the temperature is much easier in the circle of your clan or group that monitors your safety and does not freeze.

Security

Having fulfilled our biological needs, we will think about the security of both our own and our families, friends and family. In addition, people have always worried about the safety of their resources, including money.

That is, the second reason why people are grouped together is to achieve a level of security in which we can safely plan or act freely. Agree, it is difficult to work, if at any moment your life can be cut off. If you are sure that nothing threatens you, then you will be much more effective. In this case it is much easier, if someone else is watching for protection. For example, in our time this is the responsibility of the police. In ancient times, people from the same clan defended each other before the danger.

Involvement

Loneliness is the worst enemy of man, even if he is an introvert. Without building a family, friendship and love, we are unlikely to be satisfied with our lives. And here the presence of a group is incredibly important for a person, because it is in her search for a companion or companion will exactly give the desired result.

Respect

Another reason why people are grouped together is the desire to be respected. Everyone wants to trust someone, and also to trust them. For someone to be proud of them and show respect. But the achievement of this need is almost impossible outside the society, the group. Many years ago, for example, all members of the clan respected their leader or the best hunters.

Self-realization

The last step of the Maslow pyramid is self-realization. It is not given to everyone, but many would like to realize themselves in this life. The only question is whether it is possible to do it alone. After all, even great creativity, left in the shadows, is unlikely to be called art. If no one noticed such great artists as Picasso or Dali, they would hardly be able to realize themselves or understand that they did it.

In the group it is easier to find a place, as well as people for whom I would like to try. Having climbed the high career ladder, you, one way or another, realize yourself. But to assess the height of its rise can only be in society, the team.
