Black currant is almost the most popular shrub in the backyard. Gardeners love it not only for its pleasant, slightly sour taste, and rich aroma, but also for the abundance of useful substances: vitamins, macro- and microelements. In addition, the currant is easy to harvest for the winter, and on cold snowy days bake pies and cook compotes, enjoying the summer taste of berries. There are a lot of varieties of this shrub, but today we pay attention to one of them, which is called currant Yadrenaya.

Descriptions of the variety

In the Institute of Horticulture of Siberia named after M.A. Lisavenco deduced currant Yadrenaya. The description of this variety is as follows. Currant medium late maturity. The variety of currant Yadrenaya is very resistant to weather conditions, well tolerates frosty winters.

The shrubbery is compact, medium-sized, semi-spread, and, therefore, it can be successfully grown on small plots. Berry brush length of 7-9 centimeters, it is located from 4 to 8 berries.

Currant Yadrenaya is the largest fruit variety at the moment. Berries have a round or oval shape, bright black, with glitter, thick skin and dense elastic flesh. The mass of berries varies from 4 to 8 g. The taste is rich, sweet and sour, bright and refreshing. The yield is up to 4 kilograms per bush.

Features of care

Because of the large size of the berries, the currant Jadrenia is very popular. Reviews for this brand are mostly positive. However, the desired unique crop can be obtained only if all agrotechnical rules of care are observed.

Currant Yadrenaya is very demanding for care, her highest yields only show in areas of Western Siberia, for which she was bred. The more north this variety grows, the smaller the size of the berry and the lower the yield.

Currant yields a higher yield if several different varieties are planted nearby for mutual pollination.

Planting is best done as early as possible, until the buds are blooming. After planting, the soil is treated with manure, sawdust or peat.

The saplings require especially abundant watering during the ovary, ripening of berries and after harvesting for growth and active bookmarking of the kidneys for the next year.

The landing site must be well-lit and protected from the wind.

Trimming shoots should be done in a timely manner, you must not allow them to thicken. The introduction of organic fertilizers is mandatory.

During the ripening of fruit, when the bush is tightly covered with heavy berries, the branches must be tied up, otherwise they will break under their weight.

Pests

Currant Yadrenaya is very weakly affected by the kidney mite and powdery mildew, practically does not suffer from rust, is medium-resistant to anthracnose. In early summer, aphids may appear on young shoots. Since berries do not yet exist, various pesticides can be used against the pest. As a rule, one-time treatment is sufficient until the next year.

Adult shrubs of currant almost do not require chemical treatment from pests and diseases. The tops of the bush can be affected by powdery mildew. In this case, in the spring, they cut off the secateurs by 3-4 centimeters. If cobwebs are found during the ripening season, they should be removed.

Planting of currant

So, you decided that the crocodile Yadrenaya should settle in the garden. The description of the process of planting seedlings in this case will not be superfluous. Cuttings are planted in mid-September in a dug loose ground at a slight angle (45-50 degrees). On the surface of the soil, however, there are no more than two kidneys. It is better if they are located on the side.

In early spring, shoots of 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters are formed from the buds. At this time it is desirable to make the first top dressing. What kind of fertilizer does the currant Yadrenaya like? Comments of gardeners on this score agree that the best fertilizer is a mixture of manure and urea (a tablespoon of urea is added to the bucket of manure). Such fertilizer in the first days of April will be the most effective. One bucket of feeding goes to 10-12 cuttings. The second feeding is carried out in a couple of weeks, at the end of April the same composition. And, at last, the last top dressing can be made in two more weeks. More cuttings are not fed until autumn, but if the summer turned out to be unsuccessful, and their growth is very slow, then the fourth feeding is made before the end of June.

Also in the middle of the summer you should pinch shoots. The top of the shoot breaks and then moves away. After this, the growth of the shoot is suspended and lateral processes appear.

During the season, you can periodically make ash, seedlings are very responsive to this fertilizer. The ash is made from the calculation of 1 bucket for 3 m planting, sprinkle it near the bottom of the landings.

Annual saplings can be planted in autumn and spring. Plants are located at a distance of 1.2-1.4 meters from each other. Dig a hole about 40 * 40 centimeters in size, add organic fertilizers, peat, scattered sawdust, grass, sprinkle a little on the ground and top the sapling. Top dressing is conducted in the same way as in the case of cuttings, in early April. Three top dressings with an interval of two weeks between each.

Adult shrubs currant Yadrenoy from 4 years require liquid fertilizing, 3-4 buckets per bush. It is held in mid-May, after flowering.

Pruning is necessary, removing unnecessary dry branches. The cut is treated with paint or garden wax.

Advantages of the variety

Currant Yadrenaya is a frost-resistant variety, it is able to tolerate fairly large temperature fluctuations. Resistant to pests and diseases. It reproduces well.

The variety is good for harvesting berries with sugar, cooking compotes and jam. Berries have sour taste, since they contain organic acids, a little sugar and a lot of ascorbic acid.

If you delay with harvest, then the berries acquire a sweeter, dessert taste.

Let's sum up the results

Thus, the Yadrenaya currant variety has many advantages over other species. It is successfully grown by gardeners throughout Russia, but it yields the highest yield only in the regions of Siberia. The reviews are mostly positive. Gardeners note the pleasant taste of berries, unpretentiousness to conditions and farming techniques, frost resistance, good yield.
