Coupling for cable: types, advantages, description. Heat-shrinkable cable coupling

The level of strength and reliability of the cable connections largely depend on the elements used. Their quality fully affects the operation of the entire communication line. Coupling connector for the cable stands out significantly against the background of the rest of the range. This is a special design, widely used for high-quality insulation of cable systems and all joints. In addition, such elements are connected to separate parts of the wires. They allow to guarantee a high level of protection against water, tightness of fastening, resistance to corrosion and other possible malfunctions.

The coupling for the cable is made of different materials. Their species is truly a huge number. These are plastic, lead, heat shrinkable, cast iron and other products. Also, depending on the installation, the couplings are both internal and external.

What are couplings?

In order to answer this question, let us consider this construction in more detail. For example, a coupling sleeve for cable 240 is needed to connect the two ends of the wire in one line. The permissible voltage in which must not exceed 10 kV. If the cables are of different cross-sections, then you need to use adapters. This coupling has a bolted way of fastening, which allows to provide the highest quality connection. It is suitable for use in various places: in the ground, in a tunnel, on overpasses, etc.

Coupling for cable: purpose

Any cable backbone, irrespective of its function, is exposed to many negative factors. These include chemicals, moisture, etc. The most effective way to protect such systems from all sorts of internal and external adverse effects is the quality of the cable insulation, especially at the junction points. Many domestic companies produce heat shrinkable couplings with the ability to operate in the temperature range from -50 ° C to + 50 ° C.

Both the insulating jacket and heat shrinkable couplings are made of high-quality polymer. The physicomechanical properties of this material have allowed to put aside all past developments.

Heat-shrinkable cable sleeves

Currently, the most common product is the heat shrinkable coupling for the cable. This demand is explained quite easily: the product is reliable, installed without any complications, the use does not entail harmful consequences. A distinctive feature of this type of clutch is the ability to connect several cables at once, however, provided that the diameter of their cross-section is almost the same. After they went into wide production, almost all enterprises try to abandon other types, since when installing this particular coupling the cable does not lose its elasticity, and the connection point is sufficiently reliable and completely protected from unwanted external influence.

Advantages of couplings

The following advantages are typical for heat-shrinkable couplings:

  • Simplicity in installation, thanks to which this procedure can be performed by a person without specialized skills and knowledge;
  • Such a coupling for the cable is universal;
  • Long service life;
  • Completely safe for others;
  • Absolute non-conductivity of electricity;
  • Good resistance to aggressive chemicals;
  • Biological neutrality;
  • High strength and tightness of cable connections.

Application and features of production of couplings

The main feature of heat shrinkable couplings is the possibility to change the size when heated and to adapt as easily as possible to any cable size, and any deformation of the product is completely excluded.

A modern heat shrinkable coupling for the communication cable is made using a special technology called cross-linking of shape memory and polymers. Between the molecules in the polymer chain, chemical bonds are formed. Due to gamma radiation, high-frequency irradiation with electrons, silane or pyroxide methods, the molecules of the linear chain are linked to each other in a durable and qualitative structure. As a result, the technical and physical properties of heat shrinkable couplings are completely fixed and thereby prevent heating of articles above the melting point. They eventually achieve the necessary consistency and finally freeze, acquiring the necessary form.
