Correct link design

When writing any scientific work, the author analyzes many sources of information. Therefore, it is mandatory to specify all the resources that have been used. To clearly indicate where this or that literature was used, references should be made to it in the text. What should be the design of the links, find out more.

In spite of the fact that there is a special GOST for the design of footnotes, some educational institutions make their demands both to the list of sources and to the instructions to resources themselves. Often the universities publish their own methodological manuals that help students to carry out their scientific work in accordance with all standards.

When should I make references?

The design of references should be mandatory if:

• The text uses a quotation from a third-party source.
• In his work the author cites data from a certain resource.
• The student analyzes the information provided by another author.
• In the work there are illustrations, tables or formulas borrowed from a third-party source.
• The author briefly presented an overview of the topic, but wants to draw the reader's attention to a more complete presentation of the material in another work.

It is not necessary to make references when writing an article in a scientific publication, and also when there is a quotation from a famous work of great classics published in multiple copies. Do not use links in textbooks, if an example is given from another resource.

In fiction, there are often references to terms, concepts, the meaning of which is explained below.

Types of links

Internally text footnote . It is used when the main part of the link is indicated in the text itself. It is also often used in directories with a large number of pointers and in epigraphs.

A textual reference . It is used when there is an analysis of text from another source.

A subtext link . Often such an option for the design of footnotes can be seen in fiction.

Rules for the design of links

First you need to determine which version of the footnote to use in your work. In the diploma and course projects, it is recommended to place text and subtext references to sources. In essays, essays, or reports, it is permissible to use intramontext.

In the training manual A.V. Romanova "Fundamentals of Banking" (3rd ed., M .: Nauka, 2010), it was stated that consumer credit is a loan to individuals for personal needs.

In this case, it is seen that the link is made in parentheses and only its missing part is indicated, which is not present in the text.

If we are interested in the design of links for text, then consider the following example:

"The text of the work, which is based on information from a third-party resource" [3, p.42-45]

The footnote is indicated in square brackets. In this case, the first number means the source number in the list of literature, and after that it is necessary to give an indication of the pages used.

Subtextual links are made with an icon from above on this principle: Text of the work ^1.

At the end of the page, a line is drawn, under which the bibliographic name of the resource is indicated. A text editor usually does this automatically.

Today, students also use Internet sources in a large amount. It can be textbooks, articles, journals, statistics and so on.

The design of links to electronic resources occurs on the same principle as the design of footnotes for printed publications. However, when specifying them in the list of sources, use the following format: Geraismenko L. Record keeping in trade enterprises: [Electronic resource]. 2009-2010. URL: link.
