Correct laying of linoleum

One of the best-proven types of flooring is linoleum. The modern market offers several coating options, each of which requires a special method of laying, a specific type of glue, mastic.

Laying linoleum will pass without problems, if you follow the advice and recommendations in the article.

What is important to know?

Obligatory for covering linoleum floors are the following conditions:

• The temperature regime at the floor level should not be below 15 ° C.

• The moisture content of concrete for floor panels between floors should not be more than 4%.

• For cement - no more than 5%.

• For gypsum - no more than 3%.

• Screeds from particleboard - 12%, not more.

If the base moisture is above these parameters, then probably a detachment of linoleum, under which the processes of decay and destruction of the substrate may occur.

Laying and priming

1. Linoleum laying is carried out only after the completion of all repair and construction works.

2. In the walls and in the partitions there should be embedded elements to fix the plinth. If they are not installed, the plugs are made of wood by the following method: holes are drilled in a diameter of 15 mm (not less) by 40-45 mm in depth. The distance between the nests is approximately 900-1200 mm, the level from the floor is 15 mm, you can 20.

3. When the plugs are clogged into the nests, they are cut so that they form one plane with the wall surface.

4. After the floor is completely cleaned, it is primed with water, dispersion adhesive and mastic. Can use those species, which include bitumen, tar or rubber. Then they are dissolved in gasoline or special solvents.

5. For priming materials are used, similar in uniformity with glue and mastic, intended only for linoleum. Primer is produced using a roller or a sprayer. The direction should be strictly to the doorway. You can not allow the formation of puddles.

6. Before rolling out a roll of linoleum, it should be held at room temperature (not less than 15 °) for about 48 hours.

7. Roll should roll out on the cooked floor and sustain in this form for two days, so that the mounds and waviness disappear.

Kinds

Linoleum is made on different basis:

• With thermal insulation base *

• With tissue **

• Normal, without any substructure ***

Glue and mastic:

• Dispersion glue: bustilate, ADM-K, AK, humilax (used for *).

• Bituminous mastic (for **).

• Bitumen-synthetic adhesive (for **).

• Mastic, which includes synthetic resins and rubber (for ***).

Use for work is a spatula IR-512A, a metal spatula is not recommended for use on materials based on resins and rubber. The thickness of the applied layer should be in millimeters:

• On a dispersion basis, approximately 0.7

• Bituminous - 0.4

• Rubber - 0.3 or 0.4

• Synthetic resin - 0.4

For adhesives and mastics on different bases, there is a time of application and sizing:

• Dispersion - are applied to the base of the linoleum, and it immediately fits.

• Those that have bitumen in the composition should be absorbed after 20 minutes, after which the styling takes place.

• Adhesive materials, which are based on synthetic resin and rubber, are kept until the excess solvent evaporates, to the "tear" state. Then the linoleum with a spatula No. IR-695 is applied glue in a thickness of 0.3 mm. Instead of a spatula, you can use a brush. After 10 or 15 minutes, the linoleum is pasted on the bottom of the floor with the back side.

Connection of panels

When the linoleum linens are joined together, the excess edges are cut using special knives, so that one cut cuts two panels at once.

The edges of linoleum cloths are glued to the base of the floor with a mandatory piecing. The places where the removal of the scraps are made are glued in exactly the same way.

Welding

Welding in places of joints of panels is made both by thermal method, and cold. Thermal methods, that is, infrared rays or hot air, are used mainly in industries.

Cold welding is usually used for domestic purposes after the joints have been cut. Cold welding is used for linoleum on a fabric basis or without a base. Cold welding - a method of applying to the edges of docked panels of a special composition, which provides an adhesive tight and reliable connection.

Step-by-Step

1. The linoleum linen is pre-cut edges. Then they are bent to the level of the glued sections. Then glue on the seam on a double-sided adhesive tape (width 100 mm).

2. Put the mastic or glue on those parts of the lower layer that formed between the glued linoleum and the tape. If the tape is not involved in the work, then glue or mastic is applied to the entire area of the lower layer and the front of the panel.

3. One edge of the bent linoleum pieces is densely and gently pressed to the base of the floor. At the butt of the edge, a thin layer of the composition necessary for cold welding is applied.

4. The second edge is lowered, pressed tightly to the base and the ends of the two edges joined together are pressed together. The process is carried out simultaneously; A mandatory condition must be the full filling of the seam by the composition.

5. When the work is completed, the seams are gently wiped, removing all excess weight from the linoleum. Cold welding ensures the strength of the seam and is almost imperceptible.

The last stage - skirting boards

After the panels and joints are glued, skirting boards are installed. Wooden nailed to the cork, made in walls or in partitions with nails (diameter 2.5 mm, length from 30 to 40 mm). Instead of nails, you can use screws in a diameter of 3 mm, a length of at least 25 mm. Establish a certain interval so that the skirtings only touch the floor, but they are not pressed tightly to it. For PVC skirting boards, glue KN-2 or -3 is used, with which they are glued to walls or to partitions along a smooth, leveled surface.

We hope that the new coating with the help of these instructions was installed quickly, long served and became a pride for the owners!
