Computed tomography of the abdominal cavity: important information

Computed tomography is a complete image of the abdominal cavity, which allows detailed viewing of all tissues and drawing up a picture of the patient's state of health.

This procedure has become the "gold standard" for obtaining images of the organs of the stomach and pelvis. Computed tomography of the abdominal cavity takes only 20 minutes. However, in such a short period of time, a specialist can easily detect various anomalies (for example, a benign tumor in the liver (hemangioma), cysts in the spleen or liver, etc.).

Generally speaking, magnetic resonance imaging of the abdominal cavity suggests a study for the presence of:

- liver disease, pancreas;

- Blood diseases (lymphoma and lymphogranulomatosis);

- Acute illnesses (abscesses, appendicitis);

- intestinal diseases, vessels of the abdominal cavity ( spiral computed tomography is used for this purpose ).

Before this procedure, a special and scrupulous preparation is necessary, which is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to iodine or have increased sensitivity to iodine-containing drugs. This is due to the fact that to carry out tomography you need to drink a special solution, which, if there is an allergy, can negatively affect the patient's health. It is prepared using urographine (76%), sold in each pharmacy. Two ampoules of this drug are bred in one and a half liters of water. Take the resulting mixture should be slow, watching the changes in your health. In the evening of the day preceding the passage of the tomography, you should drink 500 ml of the solution. Dinner uninspired (light salad of vegetables without fatty filling will be just right).

Immediately before the procedure, it is not recommended to take firm and heavy meals. It is best to drink a cup of tea / a glass of orange juice, and you can eat liquid porridge (optimally, if it is cooked from grinded cereals).

After breakfast, you need to drink another 500 ml of the solution. The rest should be taken with you and start to drink for half an hour before the start of the procedure (you should drink everything in small sips for 15 minutes).

Computed tomography of the abdominal cavity is conducted, as a rule, in the direction of the doctor. Usually it is recommended by such specialists: surgeon, oncologist, gastroenterologist.

Computed tomography of the abdominal cavity is shown:

- with suspected neoplasm or relapse of tumor lesions of the bile duct and liver, fatty dystrophy, voluminous formations, liver cirrhosis;

- with chronic and acute pancreatitis at different stages;

- to evaluate the effectiveness of tumor treatment;

- In case of traumatic injuries;

- with hepatocerebral dystrophy.

The apparatus itself is somewhat like a pressure chamber. The patient is placed inside this "miracle of technique". It is necessary to maintain complete immobility! As soon as the computed tomography of the abdominal cavity is completed, the specialist will review the results and then write a conclusion with a detailed diagnosis that will be passed on to the family doctor or specialist who referred you to the MRI of the abdominal cavity. In Moscow to date, 15 diagnostic centers that perform a similar procedure (the cost of it - from 5000 rubles.).
