Commemorative coins "Cities of military glory." Coins 10 rubles a series of "Cities of Military Glory"

Perhaps there is no such numismatist who would not have known about a whole series of coins worth 10 rubles, called "Cities of Military Glory." For the first time, its samples were released in 2011, and since then interest in it has not died down. Many people in Russia and abroad have begun to purchase these unique coins, since they have some individual characteristics.

Cities of military glory

The towns that have been awarded this title are towns in which fierce battles were fought on or near the territory, where the defenders of the Motherland displayed extraordinary fortitude, courage and heroism.

In connection with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, signed in December 2006, they were assigned the status of "City of Military Glory". They must necessarily have a special commemorative stele with the image of the emblem and the text of the presidential decree on conferring him an honorary title. In addition, various solemn events and festive salutes dedicated to the City Day, on 9 May and 23 February are held in these cities.

Some people do not see much sense in singling out just a few dozen settlements. Since during the Great Patriotic War throughout the European part of Russia there were hard battles. Therefore, it seems somewhat strange to single out a particular city and its importance to the country, if this trouble has affected all settlements without exception.

Issue of coins

Commemorative coins "Cities of Military Glory" was decided to be issued in the order in which the decrees on the appropriation of this title are issued. At the very beginning, the series was planned to be completed in 4 years, but over time it became clear that production could continue for some time, as every year new regulations were issued.

In accordance with the law, commemorative coins made from non-precious metals are received by the banks of the city or region they were dedicated to. Therefore, if you are lucky, then they can give you the change. But if you have absolutely no desire to wait for such a happy coincidence, you can easily buy commemorative coins of the City of Military Glory in numerous online stores and at auctions.

With the existing coin output schedule, which is 8 pieces per year, the series will continue to be released at least until 2015, provided that there are no new regulations on assigning this status to other cities.

In 2011-2013, the order of minting money completely coincided with the presidential decrees on conferring honorary titles "City of military glory." Coins issued in 2014 do not correspond to this order. After the release of money with the emblem of Vyborg, everyone expected that the next picture would be Kalach-na-Donu. Instead, they made a coin of Stary Oskol, while missing 6 cities.

It should be noted that the Malgobek emblem was slightly changed after the money was put into circulation. This is due to some inaccuracies noted by the Heraldic Council, acting under the President of the Russian Federation.

First samples

A series of coins "Cities of Military Glory" begins with eight copies minted in 2011 and dedicated to the cities: Yelnya, Yelets, Orel, Belgorod, Rzhev, Kursk, Malgobek and Vladikavkaz. All of them have the same obverse and differ from each other only in reverse.

Belgorod was the first to be awarded the status of "City of Military Glory", and this is not surprising. He was subjected to German occupation twice. The first time - from the end of October 1941 to February 1943, and the second - from mid-March to early August 1943. He was liberated by Soviet troops in the course of fierce battles in the Kursk (Fiery) arc.

At the end of April 2007, the President of Russia signed a decree on conferring him the title, and on May 23, 2011, the coins "Cities of Military Glory" were dedicated to this heroic city and its liberators.

During this period, 8 coins were also minted, and they were dedicated to the cities of Dimitrov, Tuapse, Rostov-on-Don, Luga, Veliky Novgorod, Polar, Voronezh and Velikie Luki.

June 9, 1942 motorized and tank troops of the enemy managed to break through to the city and seize its right-bank side. And his left-bank part was defended. In July, a large group of fascist troops tried to break through to Stalingrad. But the brave defenders of the city managed to stop them and frustrate the barbarous plans of the Hitlerite command.

For 212 days the front line was on the territory of Voronezh, where Soviet troops tried to contain the onslaught of about 10 German divisions. As a result, these actions helped to defend and defend Stalingrad, as well as completely disrupt the enemy's swift offensive in summer. During the fighting, Voronezh was almost destroyed, and most of its inhabitants were in the occupied territory.

The series continues

2013 was marked by the release of all the same 8 coins. Reverses depict the arms of cities: Vyazma, Volokolamsk, Naro-Fominsk, Bryansk, Arkhangelsk, Kronstadt, Pskov and Kozelsk.

Coins, published on April 1 and dedicated to Vyazma, continued the series of anniversary tenths. It was in the vicinity of this city that the most dramatic defensive operation took place in October 1941, not only during the Great Patriotic War, but also during the entire existence of the Russian state. Here the German troops were able to defeat the huge, almost a million-strong grouping of the Red Army. According to the German side, more than 660,000 Soviet soldiers and officers were captured.

In 1942, forces of two fronts, Kalinin and Western, attempted to liberate the city of Vyazma, for which a truly large-scale Rzhev-Vyazma offensive was launched, which also ended in failure. It is considered one of the bloodiest battles of that war.

The occupation of Vyazma lasted 17 long months. During this time, enemy troops almost leveled it to the ground, and most civilians were killed. In March 1943, Vyazma was released.

From late October 1941 until early January 1943, Nalchik was occupied by the Germans. During this time, he was subjected to very significant destruction, but immediately after liberation from enemy troops the city began to rebuild.
