Coins of Sochi. Olympic coins of Sochi - 25 rubles

Back in the 70s of the XX century in the Soviet Union the tradition was started to make commemorative coins in honor of the passing Olympiads. They did not change the established custom and in preparation for the 2014 Games. This coin program was designed for three years, it lasted from 2011 to 2014, and during this period, 40 different variants were produced.

Investment Coins

Back in 1992, the Bank of Russia decided to make banknotes, which can be used to invest. They are also called "investment coins". They are manufactured in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Their main difference is the high decoration and impeccable chasing. Investment coins enjoy excellent demand not only in Russia, but also abroad. Demand for them is always high.

Olympic coins "Sochi", which are dedicated to the games of 2014, are realized only by the Savings Bank of Russia - this financial institution has the exclusive right to sell them. After all, it was he who became the General Partner of both regular and Paralympic Games of this year.

Memorable options

Coins "Sochi" were made by the Bank of Russia from precious and non-precious metals. If the first of them are investment and are in demand among rich people, the latter are simply called "memorable." It is for them to hunt simple collectors, because the price of them is available to most residents of the country. Of course, they are of the greatest interest for numismatists-professionals, but ordinary citizens do not mind that at home they have such a pretty penny.

The main difference between memorable and investment options is that when you buy the first you pay 18% VAT, and the second is not taxed. But memorable options are excellent souvenirs, they can even become a gift-symbol, which will remind you of the Sochi Olympics.

Versions of 2011

Olympic coins "Sochi 2014" began to be released three years before the Games. According to the established plan, only 3 non-precious coins were to be issued. The first variant of non-precious metals was released in 2011, April 15. It shows the emblem of the Winter Games. The nominal value of the coin issued by Sochi is 25 rubles. It is worth noting that the first option caused quite a large demand among collectors-numismatists. At auctions, its cost reached 1 thousand rubles. But the excitement that appeared in the early days quickly fell asleep, and the cost fell. Now on sale you can find a coin several times cheaper. The circulation of this first variant was 9 750 thousand copies.

In the same year, December 27, the Central Bank issued a second version of the coin "Sochi" 25 rubles. On the new copy was also depicted a symbol of the Olympics, but this time the emblem was made in color. The circulation of this option was 250 thousand units. The cost of it, according to many, was overstated, when it appeared on the market, it reached 5000 rubles.

Description of the first non-precious coin

The first version, issued by the Central Bank, was made of copper-nickel alloy. The weight of this coin "Sochi" - 10 grams (tolerance - 0.3 grams), thickness - 2.3 mm, diameter - 27 mm, the mouth contains 180 corrugations.

The released version is made in the form of a white disk, along the circumference of which passes an annular rope. The obverse of the coin is 25 rubles. In the center is the emblem of the Federation - a two-headed eagle with its wings spread upwards. It is crowned with crowns, which are connected by one ribbon. In the left paw of the eagle there is a power, and in the right - a scepter. On his chest is depicted a horseman, who strikes with a spear of a dragon. The latter has already been knocked backwards. The semicircle follows the inscription "RUSSIAN FEDERATION", it is framed by a pattern of rhombuses. In the lower part of it horizontally there is an inscription of the face value "25 rubles", and under it is engraved the date 2011. To the right above it, you can also find a trademark, which puts the mint of St. Petersburg. It is worth noting that the Olympic coins "Sochi" 25 rubles, which were issued in different years, differ only in the production date.

The reverse of the first coin looks like this. In the center there is an inscription "sochi.ru", it is located on the background of the mountain relief. On the site where the shadow from the rock is depicted, the date of the Olympics - 2014 - and five symbolic rings are located.

Distinctive features of other non-precious coins

All versions of memorabilia, issued by the Bank of Russia, have their own distinctive features. If the obverse of such coins are very similar - they differ only in the year of issue, then their reversals differ significantly. The second coin issued differs from the first only in that its reverse part is colored. The inscription "sochi", the date of the Games and five Olympic rings are highlighted.

The third and fourth issued coins differ only in color. If the first version can be found relief images of the three recognized mascots of the Games - Leopard, Bunny and White Bear, then on the second they are already colored.

The fifth and sixth coins of 25 rubles "Sochi 2014" are devoted to the Paralympic Games. They depict their symbols - Luchik and Snowflake. On the first version of this series it is relief images, and on the second - color images.

On the seventh and eighth coins with a nominal value of 25 rubles, the torch and the emblem of the Games are depicted on the background of the map of Russia. There you can also consider the route of the relay relay of the Olympic flame. As in the previous versions, the first coin of this series is a relief, the second is made in color.

Investment Options

Precious coins The Central Bank of Russia issued the following denominations: 3, 50 and 100 rubles. Of course, not all investment coins are available to Sochi 2014. The price for them is too high for most Russians. Unlike memorable options, investment is made in the form of a rectangle, they resemble ingots of precious metals.

The first coin produced is made of silver (sample - 999). Its nominal value is 3 rubles, and its weight is 31.1 grams. The size of the coin is 2,3х3,5 centimeters. In Russia, 1,500 thousand copies of it were minted. On the reverse side there is an official mascot of the Games in Sochi - Leopard. In addition to the above, skeleton, freestyle, tobogganing, jumping, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, curling and speed skating were sketched.

But 2013 has become more interesting. During this period, the Bank of Russia issued a coin of gold (only 999 metal was used). Its weight was 1 kg, and the nominal value - 10 000 rubles. Cost of coins

If the prices for memorabilia are estimated at hundreds of rubles, then they are ten times higher in investment. So, ordinary coins from metal with engraving can be bought for 100-400 rubles. The same options, but in color, will cost 1000 to 1000 numismatists, depending on the number of coins purchased and the images on them at one time.

Silver bullion Bank of Russia released at a price of 900-1300 rubles for one copy. Golden variants with a nominal value of 50 rubles in the Central Bank were sold at a price of 10,500, at times their value reached 14,000 per copy.
