The main symptom of intracranial pressure

Today, very many complain of unbearable headaches in the morning. So, some do not pay any attention to this main symptom of intracranial pressure , writing off bad health for stress and lack of sleep. However, doctors warn that it is impossible to put such discomfort in the back box. The thing is that the lack of timely treatment in this case can threaten much more dangerous consequences. Why?

general information

Our brain is very sensitive to various kinds of mechanical influences. That is why it is surrounded by a special protective shell, which is otherwise called cerebrospinal fluid. This medium is constantly produced by the so-called vascular plexuses of the ventricles of the brain itself, and then it is subsequently absorbed, thus providing some pressure. Violation of this balance, as a rule, provokes high intracranial pressure. Symptoms, if you believe the experts, almost all people are the same. However, we will talk about this below.

The main causes of the disease

  • Inflammatory diseases (eg, meningitis, encephalitis, etc.).
  • Hypoxia of the brain.
  • Congenital disorders in the CNS.
  • Hemorrhage.
  • A variety of craniocerebral injuries.

Symptoms

According to specialists, even the most insignificant symptom of intracranial pressure - headache - can appear many years after the received mechanical trauma, which was discussed above. It is noteworthy that it often intensifies by the second half of the night. In the morning, patients complain of a broken condition and a sensation of a heavy head.

In addition, the first signs of this problem include impaired vision and photophobia, and even bruises under the eyes. If this problem persists for a long time, you can notice changes in the pupils with the naked eye. For example, in one eye it can be expanded, and in the other, on the contrary, it is narrowed.

Quite often violations occur against the background of the psychoemotional state. So, patients have increased irritability (especially in relation to the surrounding people), a relatively large fatigue, a constant weakness. If you believe the experts, in this case, in the absence of timely treatment, the probability of developing a so-called pathological numbness is quite high, which ultimately leads to a coma.

Vegetosovascular dystonia is another unpleasant symptom of intracranial pressure. It manifests itself in the form of increased sweating, rapid heart rate and pre-stupor. As a rule, in this case the head starts to work literally as a barometer, that is, the lower the usual atmospheric pressure, the much higher the intracranial pressure.

Note that a little less is diagnosed high intracranial pressure in adolescents. Symptoms in this case are almost the same, but the consequences are somewhat different. If in adults this problem causes only minor changes in the work of some groups of organs, then in the young generation, in the absence of timely treatment, the probability of developing neuroses and even psychoses is very high.

Diagnostics

If you find at least one symptom of intracranial pressure from the above, it is recommended to consult a specialist without any special delay. It is believed that its parameters can be determined by inserting a needle into the skull with a special device - a manometer. However, modern medicine makes it possible to determine the presence of this problem in more simple ways, namely:

  • Examination of the fundus ;
  • Echoencephalography (brain examination by ultrasound);
  • Computer X-ray tomography.

Treatment

First and foremost, the neurologist must determine the root cause that triggered the development of this problem. Note that to bring back to normal for the rest of life, the pressure, most likely, will not work. However, while following certain recommendations and taking medications, it is still possible to improve the patient's condition. As a rule, diuretics and medications are prescribed, which normalize blood circulation in the vessels of the brain, and also feed them. For the entire period of therapy, the consumption of liquid is sharply limited. It should be noted that the choice of specific drugs remains for the specialist. Be healthy!
