From the history

The homeland of crossbows is China. With the development of cities, there was a need to improve the conventional bow, which was previously used as a weapon. The first Chinese crossbows, discovered during excavations, date back to the 4th-3rd centuries BC. The design was a crossbow with a length of 1.8 meters, which could throw a 3-meter dart with a rope - to return it back.

At that time, Chinese artillery was impressive in size and low practical orientation. The described self-fire could rather scare the enemy than really hit. After all, a dart 3 meters long, and even tied with a rope, could hardly fly far away. Apparently, the weapon was designed to defeat close targets.

Later, hand crossbows began to be used, which spread to neighboring countries. The release of Chinese weapons was accompanied by magical rituals and timed to the seasons.

In the XI century, self-arrows began to appear with more complex technical characteristics. There are also many-ray constructions of this time.

The Chinese also created multi-charge crossbows to confront the barbarians. Such weapons were characterized by weakness and inaccuracy, but high rate of fire. Mention of multiplied crossbows are found from 121 BC.

In the III century was invented a store crossbow, later called a "fast dragon machine." It was used until the XIX century. The shooter could shoot 10-12 arrows in 15 seconds. For greater efficiency, arrows were sometimes treated with poison.

How does it work?

Crossbow multiple-shot shoots as follows. The bowstring stretches, the bolt from the store goes into the gutter. When the trigger triggers, the boom emits from the groove. After making a shot, the shooter moves the lever, the next arrow from the magazine is ready.
