Box DSG - reviews. DSG robotic gearbox - the device, the principle of operation, prices
As is known, in the world there are only several types of transmissions - mechanical, automatic, tiptronic and variator. Each of them differs in its design and principle of operation. However, a few years ago, German engineers managed to combine the "automatic machine" with the "mechanics". In the end, this invention was called a DSG box . What is this transmission and what features does it have? About all this later in our article.
Characteristic
The DSG box is a kind of mechanical transmission and can be designed for 6 or 7 speeds. This gearbox refers to the kind of boxes of direct switching. It has its own automatic speed drive and is equipped with two clutches.
Appointment
The function of this element is to smoothly switch gears without breaking the power flow. Due to its special design (we'll talk about the device below) it has higher consumer qualities than the tiptronic and other types of transmissions. In fact, the DSG box provides the car with a lot of dynamic acceleration and economical fuel consumption.
Varieties
As we said earlier, this transmission can be seven- or six-speed. The first type of gearbox is often installed on low-power cars (crossovers and cars) with a torque of less than 250 N / m.
Device
Regardless of the number of speeds, the DSG automatic box has the same design, which includes the following elements:
- main gear;
- differential;
- Crankcase (body);
- Double clutch;
- Two-mass flywheel ;
- Two series of gears;
- control system.
As you can see, the box 7 DSG has almost the same device as the usual "mechanics", with the exception of some elements. Among them, it is necessary to single out such a detail as a double clutch. It is this element that performs the function of transferring forces from the engine to the I and II gears. On the six-band transmission, the master drive plays the role of the clutch. The latter is connected to the flywheel via the input hub. Also in the transmission of torque, there are 2 multi-plate clutches that are connected to the rows of even and odd gears through the hub. The seven-speed DSG box is simpler - there are 2 conventional friction clutches. This ensures the smoothest switching of speeds with the least load on the motor.
The presence of a double clutch, which connects the box to the engine, is the main feature of these types of transmissions. What is most interesting, one of them works at switching even speeds, and the second - odd, and on the reverse gear.
Differences between six- and seven-band transmissions
The characteristic difference of these transmissions is the amount of oil being charged, which contributes to the smooth operation of the gears inside the housing. DSG box for 6 speeds has a "wet type" grip, that is, it is always in oil.
DSG gearbox - reviews of car enthusiasts
Judging by the information that was outlined in the reviews, most drivers value the effectiveness of this transmission. That is, the time for shifting is reduced to such an extent that the operation of the DSG can be compared with the action of a variator (a stepless automatic box). Plus, the driver does not feel the various shocks and sounds that can be generated when working with ordinary "mechanics" or "automatic". And if the DSG and "kicks", then only when you turn on the reverse and suddenly press the gas pedal.
Main advantages
What is a good DSG gearbox? Reviews of car owners argue that fuel consumption never goes beyond the norm. Since at first this box was installed only on the German "Golf", we will consider the question of economy precisely on its example. The average engine that this car was supplied with, at its 122 horsepower, could consume less than 5.9 liters of gasoline per "hundred". The same motor, equipped with the usual "mechanics", used about 6.3 liters of fuel. As you can see, there is a difference in consumption, and considerable. But not only this differs DSG gearbox. The drivers' comments indicate that if there is a double clutch, the engine's life is almost doubled, as the working parts do not experience such a blow as with a conventional transmission.
DSG is also distinguished by its high build quality and maintainability. As the statistics show, sales of cars with such a transmission in Europe have grown by almost 30 percent. In the future, European manufacturers are planning to further increase this figure.
Judging by the reviews, the main advantage of DSG is the speed of the gearbox. According to the test results, the time of finding the gearbox in standby mode is only 0.08 seconds. Also, thanks to the double clutch, the engine almost does not lose its power, and therefore it works at full force. At the same time, drivers note the possibility of turning off the box when driving on an inclined surface (as a "neutral" on the manual gearbox), which allows reducing the total fuel consumption.
Well, the last good quality of this gearbox is its weight, which is 70 kilograms. Conventional automatic boxes weigh much more than a DSG transmission.
Main disadvantages
Which DSG 7 box has problems and disadvantages? In general, drivers characterize this transmission on the positive side, but note small shortcomings. Among them - the high cost of maintenance. Repair of DSG boxes in Russia can be performed only on specialized service stations. Due to its structural features, this PPC requires special skills and knowledge in the assembly and disassembly, and specialists who are knowledgeable in such boxes are not very many. Another given box is very expensive in production. Therefore, cars with such a transmission cost $ 500-1000 more expensive than, for example, cars with manual transmission.
Resource
How many DSG is the gearbox? Reviews of car owners say that the average lifetime of this transmission is about two hundred thousand kilometers. After that, the transmission is repaired. Often this is a replacement for the clutch, which all the time takes on enormous loads.
