As is known, in the world there are only several types of transmissions - mechanical, automatic, tiptronic and variator. Each of them differs in its design and principle of operation. However, a few years ago, German engineers managed to combine the "automatic machine" with the "mechanics". In the end, this invention was called a DSG box . What is this transmission and what features does it have? About all this later in our article.

Characteristic

The DSG box is a kind of mechanical transmission and can be designed for 6 or 7 speeds. This gearbox refers to the kind of boxes of direct switching. It has its own automatic speed drive and is equipped with two clutches.

The function of this element is to smoothly switch gears without breaking the power flow. Due to its special design (we'll talk about the device below) it has higher consumer qualities than the tiptronic and other types of transmissions. It is this element that performs the function of transferring forces from the engine to the I and II gears. On the six-band transmission, the master drive plays the role of the clutch. The latter is connected to the flywheel via the input hub. Also in the transmission of torque, there are 2 multi-plate clutches that are connected to the rows of even and odd gears through the hub. The seven-speed DSG box is simpler - there are 2 conventional friction clutches. This ensures the smoothest switching of speeds with the least load on the motor.

The presence of a double clutch, which connects the box to the engine, is the main feature of these types of transmissions. What is most interesting, one of them works at switching even speeds, and the second - odd, and on the reverse gear. Thus, when the car goes to acceleration in the first gear, the gears of the second gear are already in gearing. That is, the intermediate time for the transition from one speed to another decreases several times. This is very important for sports cars. DSG box for 6 speeds has a "wet type" grip, that is, it is always in oil. The volume of necessary fluid required for normal operation of the transmission is about 6.5 liters. In terms of financial costs, the operation of such a transmission can hit hard on the car owner's pocket. Therefore, on most DSG boxes (we are talking about 7-step), the "dry" type of clutch. In total, it is enough to fill 1.7 liters of oil for the work of such a checkpoint. Thanks to this, fuel consumption is economical and energy costs are reduced. By the way, the oil pump on these boxes is not hydraulic, but electric.

Judging by the information that was outlined in the reviews, most drivers value the effectiveness of this transmission. That is, the time for shifting is reduced to such an extent that the operation of the DSG can be compared with the action of a variator (a stepless automatic box). Plus, the driver does not feel the various shocks and sounds that can be generated when working with ordinary "mechanics" or "automatic". And if the DSG and "kicks", then only when you turn on the reverse and suddenly press the gas pedal.

Well, the last good quality of this gearbox is its weight, which is 70 kilograms. Conventional automatic boxes weigh much more than a DSG transmission.

Which DSG 7 box has problems and disadvantages? In general, drivers characterize this transmission on the positive side, but note small shortcomings. Among them - the high cost of maintenance. Repair of DSG boxes in Russia can be performed only on specialized service stations. Due to its structural features, this PPC requires special skills and knowledge in the assembly and disassembly, and specialists who are knowledgeable in such boxes are not very many. Another given box is very expensive in production. Therefore, cars with such a transmission cost $ 500-1000 more expensive than, for example, cars with manual transmission.
