APB pistol (automatic pistol silent): description, technical specifications and reviews

In the life of the average inhabitant, the booming sounds of shots are unusual. Each time, hearing the firing, the civilian instinctively strains.

Third-party attention, drawn by noisy firing, often prevents competent authorities from carrying out their tasks, the specifics of which require silence and secrecy. The accompanying shots of loud noises and especially noticeable at night time flames, knocked out of the barrel of weapons, threatened to disrupt the conduct of secret special operations.

Therefore, the APB pistol was invented.

It was the decision of the task set before the weapons designers to devise a method for eliminating the sound and light support for the use of firearms.

History of creation

The APB pistol began to be created at the request of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR in 1960. The senior designer of the silent gun model was the weapon designer TsNIItommash, the candidate of technical sciences AS Nezhugov.

The invention of a new noiseless model was carried out on the basis of the proven automatic Stechkin-APS automatic pistol. By order of the army leadership, it was subject to refinement, allowing the use of weapons for silent shooting. To this end, a significant completion of the barrel was made and a special PBS device was developed, eliminating flame flames and the sound of a shot.

As a result, the initial speed of the bullet of the regular cartridge was reduced to the sound.

In addition, a special wire shoulder stop was designed.

In 1972, the improved and noiseless analog of the APS received its index - "6P13" - and was adopted as an APB pistol.

During those years the USSR was conducting military operations in Afghanistan. A new noiseless model was first used in this conflict by Soviet paratroopers and special forces to liquidate sentinel caravans supplying supplies to the dushmans.

Who was used?

APB is a pistol created by A.S. Unguided in the period from 1979 to 1989-th - actively used by the limited contingent of Soviet troops in Afghanistan. Over time, its noiseless model was used to resolve military conflicts and local wars by special forces of the Soviet Army, officers of the special divisions of the KGB and the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs. In our time, the APB pistol is in service with the Russian Federation. The facility is intended for use by soldiers of the army special forces, special forces of the FSB and the MVD Interior Ministry.

APB Pistol: Features

The weapon is designed to target the target at a distance of up to 50 m, with a maximum range of 200 m. The initial speed of the bullet is 290 m / s. The APB pistol is equipped with a special, very convenient wire device that serves as a butt for the shoulder stop, as well as a PBS attachment that provides a soundless flameless shooting.

Options:

  • USM double-action;
  • Caliber cartridge: 9x18 under the PM;
  • Height of the weapon: 15 cm;
  • The length of the pistol without the muffler nozzle is 246 mm;
  • Without shoulder stop with PBS: 255 mm;
  • With shoulder stop and PBS attachment: 785 mm;
  • The barrel of the pistol is 14 cm long;
  • Capacity of the store: 20 cartridges;
  • Weight of arms with shoulder stop and PBS without cartridges: 1650 g;
  • Total weight with cartridges, PBS and stop: 1800 g;
  • Weight of packing: 400 g;
  • Weight of wire butt: 200 g.

The weapon is considered portable, since the PBC can be easily removed and used in the marching situation separately. For the convenience of wearing all accessories of the gun, a special holster is attached to it.

Device

The APB (pistol) is equipped with a hammer impact mechanism, an automatic acting on the principle of recoil of the barrel-enclosing shroud-shutter, and an inertial moderator, which is intended to reduce the rate of fire.

The weapon is equipped with sighting devices:

  • A fly that can not be adjusted;
  • A sight with a cam control that allows you to calculate the range of fire at 25, 50, 100 and 200 m.

The automatic pistol is silent (APB) contains an expansion chamber into which powder gases enter through small openings in the barrel wall. The holes are located at the bottom of the incisions and occupy almost the entire length of the trunk at a distance of 1.5 cm from the chamber and 1.5 cm from the muzzle. After the shot is fired, the bullet leaves the barrel channel, the powder gases through the holes pass through the expansion chamber and fall back into the barrel of the gun, through the muzzle of which it opens outwards. Movement of powder gases through the expansion chamber reduces their temperature and pressure and, as a result, the initial velocity of the bullet turns out to be lower than the sound speed.

PBS is fixed to the gun with the help of a special thread available in its muzzle. The symmetrical axis of the nozzle for silent shooting passes below the axis of the muzzle channel. This prevents the nozzle from overlapping the sight line.

Pneumatic gun features

APB is designed for the cartridges of the Makarov pistol, because they are characterized by a low initial speed of the bullet and a high damaging effect. Due to these qualities they are considered the most suitable for silent guns. But all the same, the APB fires at the sound of the clanging sound of the bolt and other parts of the automatics. A similar sound is characteristic of many pneumatic guns.

The source of energy in the pneumatic version is a cylinder with carbon dioxide. A similar weapon is produced using light alloys (body) and plastic (handle). The difference from the combat option is a reduced false trunk and the inability to use pneumatics for firing a burst. This is due to the fact that despite the external similarity of the flasher with a firearm analog, the possibility of switching to automatic mode is absent.

From the pneumatic version of the pistol can only be carried out single shots. At the same time the hit accuracy does not decrease.

Benefits

Automatic silent gun can be used both for single shots and for shooting with a burst. Due to the excretion of powder gases into the expansion chamber, some of the energy is lost. As a result, when the sound and power of the cartridge decrease, the recoil significantly decreases. This, in comparison with APS, increases the accuracy of hits, facilitates the management of weapons, even during the firing of a burst. Easy control is also provided by the presence of a device for silent shooting. This is because the PBS is a massive construction that shifts the center of gravity forward, preventing the throwing of weapons when firing.

The presence of PBS facilitates the process of fixing the weapon, since the nozzle for silent shooting single can be used as fore-end. When the shots are fired with a queue, this fixing is difficult, since the BSS is prone to rapid heating.

disadvantages

The APB pistol, in comparison with other models, is characterized by a reduced loudness of sounds, which in still surroundings can still be heard. Therefore, despite the name, this gun can not be considered a completely silent weapon. It is more suitable for the name: "automatic with a lowered volume".

In what countries is it on arms?

APB is considered a very effective weapon in situations where it is not required to produce massive shelling. Most often, this weapon is used during close combat, when the target is not securely protected.

In a row with the rest of the automatic pistols, model A.S. Negougova occupies a worthy place and is adopted by special forces of Bulgaria, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Germany and Russia. In the Russian Federation, APB is actively used by special forces such as Alfa, Lynx, and Spetsnazom of the Main Intelligence Directorate.
