Blind area and options for its execution

In many cases, the surface area of the surface water is covered by a blind area with its own hands, which is designed to extend the life of the foundation and the structure as a whole. It, as a rule, is a waterproof strip, adjacent to the base of the building with a slight slope. The design itself largely depends on the layout and geological conditions. Before starting work, it is necessary to take into account the organization of the drainage from the roof and financial possibilities. The simplest footprint of the foundation for individual construction consists of a fifteen centimetre layer of clay mint and a hard coating in the form of crushed stone or other similar materials. The lower layer acts as a waterproofing, providing, in turn, drainage of surface waters.

When the blind area is hand-made, its width must be correctly chosen. Ideally, it should go beyond the cornice overhang by twenty centimeters. On all sides, storm grooves are made to provide drainage. However, instead of them, special gutters are allowed, which are most appropriate when a nearby lawn is located. In addition, the water that gets into them will drain into the stormwater well. Most of the work on creating a diversion of surface water is carried out simultaneously with the erection of the foundation, but sometimes it is better to wait a year after building the house.

The most capital blind area with its own hands, which can be made today, is a monolithic concrete slab around the building, having a thickness of 60 to 80 mm. However, this option is not suitable for cloddy soils. Most individual builders do not take this feature into account, so they often repair the coatings, and monolithic slabs continue to crack. The main reason is that the soil is saturated with water extremely unevenly.

Monolithic concrete blind area, with its own hands arranged, is considered the best option, but it has another significant disadvantage. Due to the fact that it is difficult to achieve the required density of the mixture, many pores can be seen on the surface. In the process of exploitation, microcracks penetrate water all the time. When freezing, it expands, causing the destruction of concrete. First, the surface is peeled off, and then it flakes off completely. Over a period, the top layer collapses completely. This phenomenon in everyday life is very common.

In order not to face such problems, the right blind area is made of individual slabs, which you can make yourself. For their production in the home, a special formwork will be required, and it is better to construct two such structures. Bortics should be pierced into each other, pressing from the outside with wedges in such a way that after completion of the work, the formwork could be quickly disassembled. Products for the blind area should be reinforced, because even a small frame will increase the strength characteristics, which will save on cement and sand. The variant with plates is more suitable where there is an unorganized drain from the roof.
