He was born in a merchant family in about 1254. His father was doing business in the east, so Marco often accompanied him on distant trips. Their way lay on the Mediterranean Sea, the Tigris River, the Persian Gulf. From Hormuz, their caravan set off on land. Thus, these were the first European expeditions to Central Asia.

The emperor of the Celestial Empire trusted the enterprising young man so much that he instructed to accompany the princess in her wanderings. This is what became the greatest sea voyage in the history of that time. It involved as many as fourteen ships, and it ended with success.

But then the city fought on the water with Genoa, and during one swim Marco gets to prison. To pass the time, he begins to tell his neighbors about the camera about his adventures. These stories were so interesting and vivid that even the guards listened to them. And then many townspeople began to come to hear fantastic stories from the first mouth. A native of Pisa, the author of knightly novels by Rusticiano, decided to write down on the paper these entertaining stories. This is how the famous "Marco Polo Book" appeared, filled with the delicate remarks of a seasoned traveler.
