Cosmetics and DSME

A few years ago, a new category of dermatological protective products appeared on the shelves in stores. They look like creams for hands or face, so it's difficult to notice them among a variety of cosmetic solutions. But despite the external similarity with creams, these products do not belong to the care cosmetics (although they have something in common with it). Their main goal - to protect the skin, and care and moisturizing - secondary tasks.

Not for the mass market

Dermatological protection as a commodity category has existed for a long time, it is well known to employees of manufacturing enterprises. Here, such products are called DSIS, which in the translation from a complex industrial language means "dermatological personal protective equipment." In Russia, this niche appeared in 2004, when the Resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation "On Approving the Regulations on the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation" came into force.

According to the document, the duties of the Ministry of Health included the approval of labor protection requirements and the norms of "free flushing and disinfecting workers" (the norms are prescribed in order No. 1122N). To put it simply, the law obliged the company to provide its employees with professional dermatological agents - not all, but only those who come into contact with hazardous substances or work in harmful conditions. Basically, the rules affect enterprises of the oil refining, gas, transport, chemical, pharmaceutical industries - for example, Gazprom, Lukoil, etc.

For a long time, DSIS was only available to employees in production: the enterprises purchased them in bulk and distributed to workers according to the norms. Several years ago, manufacturers thought about ordinary consumers: in everyday life, people face the same aggressors, only in other manifestations.

What is professional protection?

Imagine: you work on a complex production - fuel, for example. You wear a helmet (by the way, also a remedy) and gloves to keep your head and hands safe. But gloves often have to be removed: with some work you can handle only with your bare hands. Harmful environmental factors do not disappear anywhere, and fuel oil and industrial oil are stuck to your hands, chemicals and temperature changes affect the skin.

Think what happens to the hands after such contacts. Hypersensitivity of the skin, irritation, inflammation at first, dermatitis, folliculitis, eczema - sweat. So that the workers did not have such problems, the Ministry of Health together with the OSH engineers came up with the DSIS - and forced them to use it in production.

Dermatological PPE is divided into three groups:

  • Protective agents that are applied to the skin before starting work. These products are divided into:

- hydrophilic, which absorb moisture, moisturize the skin and make it easier to wash off oil and water-insoluble contaminants;

- hydrophobic, which repels moisture. They are used during contact with water, alkali, lime, acids;

- Protection from natural factors: wind, UV radiation, low temperatures;

- disinfectants - for work in a bacterially hazardous environment;

- means from insects.

  • Cleansing pastes, gels, soap - help to gently wash off the skin that in ordinary life and with sandpaper not always erase. We are talking about engine oil, superglue, varnishes, paints, stains from beets.
  • Regenerating creams and emulsions. Their use does not guarantee that you will grow a finger on your hand, like a lizard's tail. But the skin will recover more quickly after the production stress: redness, irritation and dryness will pass, microcracks will heal.

Zest - in the composition

People working in production, because of constant contact with the aggressors, increases the sensitivity of the skin. It needs to be treated more carefully, and even protect in a special way. Therefore manufacturers ДСИЗ include in structure of the products many looking after components: vitamins, essence, antioxidant complexes, vegetative extracts. Some products do not contain silicones, parabens and dyes, which is also important for sensitive and allergic skin.

And why ordinary people do it?

Not all people need to run to the store for DSIS - with care and moisturizing of the skin, cosmetics will do just fine. But if contact with harmful substances has become a habit for you: for example, you wash dishes with faery all too often, draw with oil paint, dig around in the garden on weekends and repaint walls in the apartment every Saturday - in short, if you are a hardworking professional of any business, And you really need to protect the skin in a special way, then DSIS will be useful to you. For the price they can be compared to a good hand cream. Just pay attention to the instruction before using the tool, so that the money is not just thrown to the wind.
