Baiopik: what is it and what is its specificity

Today in our lexicon there are many Anglicisms, one of them is the buoyant word "baiopik". What it is? Lexeme comes from the confluence of two words - biography (biography) and picture (picture). So biopic is a "biographical picture, a movie". Filmstrings about the life and fate of the famous person - this, therefore, there are movies-baiopiki.

Features of the genre

Biographical film is usually based not only on real events that have occurred in the fate of a celebrity, his task is to reconstruct the life path of an individual. Some authors say about baiopik that it is an attempt to tell about events and times that had a decisive influence on the fate of a person.

Any "dream factory" willingly specializes in bayopics. Hollywood will make such a picture in the spirit of an exciting fairy tale for adults, Russian film companies will try to present the most accurate "report" about the life path of an eminent person. In Bollywood melodramatic and expressive colors will be used to recreate the epic personality, and the Japanese cinema will give an extremely rich, rigid and original picture.

Pioneer among the Buyopics

The first biographical film was released in 1899. Ten-minute biopic "Joan of Arc" by Georges Méliès in the pantomime technique typical for silent films told of the visions, deeds and martyrdom of a medieval heroine. Since then, cinema biographies are constantly being shot in the cinema. Dostoevsky

For the work on the "icon" of Russian novelism, a well-known and talented director Vladimir Khotinenko undertook. As a basis, he took the script Eduard Volodarsky, which more than half copied. The eight-part film of 2011 "Dostoevsky" emotionally and figuratively introduced the fate of Fyodor Mikhailovich through the prism of the most ambiguous circumstances of his life. The picture was well received by the audience, but the literary critics were unhappy with it, claiming that, in fact, everything was not right. Well, maybe they know better. Baiopik "Dostoevsky", however, won the "Golden Eagle" award for the best mini-series.

Modigliani

Biographical drama about the fate of the Italian expressionist Amadeo Modigliani was filmed in 2004 by American Michael Davis. In the film the spectator meets with another celebrity of the beginning of the last century - Pablo Picasso. The circumstances of Modigliani's life are shown at the point of sharp rivalry between two titans of expressionism. The film aroused great interest among the public, not the least role in this played the excellent music created by Guy Farley.

Clock

In 2002, a tape appeared on the screens, telling about the life and work of Virginia Woolf. The role of the English writer went to the magnificent Nicole Kidman, who won an Oscar for her. Biography of the writer in the film Stephen Daldry elegantly adjoins the stories of two women living at different times - a bored housewife Laura (she lives in 1951) and the editor Clarissa (2001), saving from AIDS the former passion, which is the son of that same housewife. The fate of the three women is bizarrely intertwined and in something strikingly similar. Baiopik had a wild success, he was highly appreciated by fans of intellectual cinema. The film claimed the Oscar for ten nominations.

For each of these films, it is not so much a strict correspondence of the biographical canvas in the biography of an individual that is important, as an aesthetically meaningful experience of the main events that somehow influenced the life and work of a great man.
