ATV Trucks: Features and Specs

In the early twentieth century, designers began to invent extreme machines. Super-trucks and ATVs were developed by many engineers in different countries. The Soviet Union proposed many models of trucks with the characteristics of all-terrain vehicles.

Features of ATVs

Not all trucks can get the rank of an all-terrain vehicle. For this, it is necessary to meet a number of criteria.

All-terrain vehicles are traveling on low-pressure tires. A wide tire is mounted on the wheel rim. Due to the large area, adhesion to the soil (or any other road surface) is improved. The air in the tire allows the technician of this type to overcome water obstacles, creating a certain buoyancy.

Another important difference between all-terrain vehicles is the "breaking" frame. It consists of two interconnected parts. This gives it the flexibility that allows all wheels to touch the ground in all situations.

Wheeled trucks

Trucks-ATVs, which move on wheels, are a universal technique. They are able to move without harm both on roads and on ground areas. Even the water will not be a barrier to them. Wheeled ATVs weigh less than tracked vehicles. But they are able to transport loads of the same mass.

Given the design of cars it is considered that wheeled superloaders are easier to repair than their caterpillar "brethren". The running gear of caterpillar vehicles consists of a large number of metal parts, which are strongly affected and damaged. In the field, it is much more difficult to repair them than wheeled trucks.

Wheeled ATVs:

  • YAG-12 - the first Soviet all-terrain vehicle.
  • ZIL-49061, which is better known as the "Blue Bird". It is a floating truck with three axles and four-wheel drive. It overcomes all water obstacles at a speed of up to 8 kilometers per hour.
  • ZIL-135P under the name "Dolphin". This is another amphibious truck. On the roads he is able to develop a speed of up to 65 kilometers per hour, and in the water - up to 16.5 kilometers per hour. He withstands a storm with a power of 5 points and a pile of ice on his way.

Crawler Equipment

Caterpillar-type all-terrain vehicles have their advantages. Vehicles of this type are characterized by increased cross-country ability, which is higher than that of wheeled vehicles. Crawler trucks are able to move through snow, swamp, plowed soil and other complex areas.

Another feature is the folding of links in two planes. Due to this, caterpillar cross-country vehicles are often compared to a snake that creeps along the ground. This technique is able to overcome high obstacles, which are higher than the technology itself.

The best Soviet trucks, all-terrain vehicles, moving on caterpillars:

  • "Knight of the DT." It features an articulated structure, which is more typical for wheeled vehicles. "Vityaz" is capable of speeding up to 47 kilometers per hour. He overcomes obstacles with a height of up to 1.5 meters and a 30-degree angle of ascent. It passes water sections with a total length of up to 4 meters.
  • TM-120, which is similar to the previous all-terrain vehicle. It differs only in the absence of articulation of the structure.
  • SM-552-03 is small in size. But it is able to carry up to 8 passengers comfortably.

It's very difficult to say which cargo ATVs are better. It depends on the tasks assigned to them and the operating conditions.
