ASP-3 (hydrometer) - an alcoholometer for home use

A hydrometer is a simple device for measuring the density of a fluid, a conventional float that, depending on the specific mass of the measured physical body, is immersed to a certain depth. For convenience, a measuring scale is directly applied to the float.

If the liquid whose density we measure consists of two components with known density values, a hydrometer can be measured and the percentage composition of the solution. This is how ASP 3 works - a hydrometer for measuring the alcohol content in water.

What caused the interest

Interest in independent production of alcohol has recently increased. And this is due to both the disgusting quality of our most widespread strong liquor store - vodka, and the sky-high prices for alcohol of normal quality.

The sales of ready-made home appliances are on the increase, I must say that a good distiller with a dry cell and a reflux condenser can cost up to 10,000 rubles and more. And, as practice shows, mastering the home production of a strong drink is possible for any person with hands, head and desire.

And the quality ... Of course, compete with whiskey, made from amber grain, soaking up the sun on some mountain slope of one of the southern states, then dried in peat smoke, hand-rubbed from the roots and then ten years old in a century-old oak barrel from the French port ... But the usual shop vodka of the middle price segment, even sugar brew, naturally, competently welded and well-purified, stacks on both blades.

A necessary attribute, especially for a novice amateur amateur, is a device for measuring the strength of a drink. Hydrometer for alcohol ASP-3 - just such a simple household appliance. A fortress of alcoholic beverage, contrary to the prevailing misconception "the stronger, the better", in each recipe should have its limits.

Hydrometer АСП-3: description

ASP-3 - hydrometer, designed to measure the concentration of alcohol in water. It is a hermetically sealed glass ampoule. The top of the ampoule is a marked scale. For convenience of use, it is immediately marked by the values of alcohol concentration in water in%. The bottom of the ampoule is loaded with an adjusted number of lead pellets fixed with a special adhesive composition. That's all a simple device ASP-3.

The hydrometer works on Archimedes' law. Alcohol is lighter than water, the higher its concentration, the less dense the solution becomes, and the float sinks stronger in it. Depth of immersion and fixed during the measurement.

How to use it correctly

But not everything is as simple as it might seem at first glance. Solutions - a tricky and complicated thing, the depth of immersion will affect not only the concentration of alcohol, but also the temperature of the solution, the degree of mutual penetration of molecules depends on it. By the way, this is what the great Russian scientist Dmitri Mendeleev was doing.

And then, according to some, he only did that he mixed alcohol with water, then he drank all this in different proportions, until he was drunk with a periodic table of elements.

So, complete with some hydrometers, there is a thermometer for measuring the temperature of vodka. A set of hydrometers ASP-3 includes such a device - ASP-T. But you can use any other household thermometer. And knowing the temperature of the solution, you can easily measure the strength of the drink, if you use the data of this table.

Hydrometer - a device for measuring the strength of a solution of water and alcohol

Do not try to measure in this way the strength of wine, liqueur, liqueur, and other beverages, which include, in addition to water and alcohol, something else. The density of such a drink will change immediately. But ASP-3 is a hydrometer that works just on the principle of density measurement.

Sellers - "masters of vpenduringa", wishing in any way to foist their goods, offer "special" hydrometers for measuring the strength of wine and beer. But theoretically, such a device can work correctly only with a drink with a strictly defined sugar content. At factories, the strength of the wines is precisely determined only by evaporation.
