Antipyretics for children or how to bring down the temperature.

Children try to treat more than others. An adult can afford to go to work and do household chores if you are unwell, which is not the case with babies. And they fall ill quite often, because colds and various viruses primarily affect their body.

If a person, regardless of age, body temperature exceeds the mark of 37 degrees, this is a signal about the presence of inflammatory processes. For us, the high temperature is an excuse for panic, whereas for the body it is a push to fight the problem that has arisen.

The most common problem in which adults start using antipyretic agents for children is ARVI or ARI. With these diseases, the temperature rises due to the protective reaction of the body. It does not allow the development of microbes and viruses, and at 38-39 degrees, they die. Thus, the body copes with the problem on its own.

Unfortunately, loving parents try their best to bring down the temperature, thus interrupting the process of recovery. This is fundamentally the wrong approach. It is better just to take it under control, so that the child could easily bear this condition. Simply put, it is necessary to give the baby a lot of warm drinks, it can be tea or mors. It is also worthwhile to provide a beneficial microclimatic regime (cool moist air). It is not advisable to wrap the baby in blankets to avoid overheating the body, it is better to periodically make warm water compresses.

Of course, there are situations when antipyretics for children are simply necessary:

  • At a temperature above 39.5 degrees;
  • In the presence of hyperthermia syndrome ;
  • At a temperature of 38 degrees, if the baby suffers from cardiovascular, nervous or respiratory diseases;
  • If there is a history of febrile seizures ;
  • If the child's age does not exceed two months, since they do not tolerate fever;
  • In the presence of muscle and headaches caused by high fever.

Pediatricians do not advise themselves to deal with lowering the temperature, it is better to first invite a family doctor. Ideally, all therapy should take place under clear guidance, since even the most harmless at first glance antipyretic drugs can cause serious complications.

What antipyretic drugs for children are the most effective and safe? The leading position is occupied by paracetamol. Its single dose reduces the temperature of the baby to 2 degrees for the next 4-6 hours. But at temperatures above 40 such a decrease has a very short-term effect.

The next safe and effective means is ibuprofen. Of course, it can cause a variety of adverse reactions, but it becomes a true salvation if there is no possibility to prescribe paracetamol. It can be taken from one-year-old age according to the prescription of the doctor.

If possible, it is better to use liquid, modern antipyretics, since they are much more easily absorbed in the child's body. Especially effective are also considered rectal suppositories, since they provide a longer lasting effect, which is optimal for their application before bedtime.

How to lower the child's temperature correctly? When using medicines, it is worth remembering that they are quite unsafe, so it's worth armed with certain knowledge. The first rule of treatment is to not apply anything without a doctor's testimony. In addition, antipyretics for children may have contraindications, so carefully study the instructions. Do not overdo with the medicine, it is enough just two meals a day. When using paracetamol, do not exceed the allowable daily dose of 60 mg / kg.

Remember that you can not give your child any other drugs, except paracetamol and ibuprofen. Especially dangerous are preparations containing antipyrine, phenacetrine, analgin, amidopyrine and acetylsalicylic acid. Such drugs can cause side reactions in the form of ulceration on the mucous membrane, kidney failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, etc.

If you use antipyretics for newborns, then be extremely careful. When your baby's temperature goes up to 38 degrees, immediately consult a doctor, only he can choose a more effective treatment.
