Analysis of sewage water: when it is needed

In the conditions of constant pollution of the environment, not only waste products, but also, it would seem, "harmless" cleaning agents for dishes, the analysis of sewage water becomes an urgent necessity. How, by whom and in what cases such an analysis is carried out - more about this in the article.

Clean water is natural wealth

A man consists of 60 percent water, which means that water is one of the most important resources on our planet. But the paradox is that it is the person who is most heavily polluted. Of course, the time passed when people were eager to "turn the river back", but the time for true respect for nature has not yet come. Production enterprises continue to be guided solely by considerations of economy and profit, ignoring the preservation of the ecological cleanliness of the space in which we live and our children will live.

The state is trying to regulate the ecological balance with the help of rules and responsibilities, however, as Professor Preobrazhensky said: "Riot begins in the minds." The purity of nature and water can only be ensured by starting with one's own behavior.

State regulation of water balance

There are a number of state-level GOSTs for the quality of drinking water, as well as the standards for effluents and maximum allowable concentrations of pollutants.

In carrying out production activities, water management passports are developed, including to take into account risk factors: they take into account not only the balance of water consumption and wastewater, sources of water supply, but also possible contaminants, as well as their maximum allowable concentrations and methods of purification.

Analysis of wastewater water is mandatory in the conduct of economic activities, as well as for enterprises involved in water treatment: they need to periodically check the quality of effluents entering the treatment plant.

Chemical analysis of waste water

The enterprise discharging waste water is obliged to control their quality. Unfortunately, it is impossible to avoid water pollution completely, but it must meet the criteria established in the contract between the consumer and the local water utility or other organization responsible for wastewater treatment.

Chemical analysis reveals the presence in the waste water of unacceptable substances or their increased concentrations. The analysis of wastewater water can be carried out according to the following indicators:

  • PH;

  • Chlorides;

  • iron;

  • Dry residue ;

  • copper;

  • Oil products;

  • chromium;

  • lead;
  • zinc;

  • Sulfates;

  • Suspended substances;

  • Other components.

Domestic wastewater does not pose such a high threat to environmental safety as contaminated industrial effluents. And yet they must be checked for quality. In domestic sewage, the content of fats, phosphorus, ether extractables and other pollutants is determined.

Who has the right to analyze the quality of waste water?

Water quality control is also regulated by regulatory legal acts: the body authorized to carry out the analysis of sewage is a laboratory that is certified in accordance with the established procedure.

Such a laboratory can be both an independent entity and work in a production enterprise. Its activities are subject to certain mandatory requirements:

  • It should be certified in the state metrological system, and attestation is carried out with a certain periodicity;
  • The study of sewage can be carried out only with the help of attorneys in the established order of measuring devices.

The analysis of wastewater water can be either planned, conducted with a certain periodicity, or unplanned, in the event of detection of volley discharges of pollutants or on other grounds.

The analysis procedure consists of several stages:

  1. First a sample is taken. Sampling is carried out in the presence of the representative of the enterprise and a corresponding act is drawn up according to its results.
  2. Then a laboratory analysis is carried out directly , which results in a protocol for the study of water quality.
  3. On the basis of the protocol, conclusions are drawn about the quality of waste water, if an unacceptable contamination is detected, the local water canal can expose the violator a considerable penalty.

Obviously, it is advantageous for an enterprise to independently monitor the quality of its effluents using its own laboratory or by ordering an analysis in a specialized organization. This move will eventually cost less, and the environment will become a little cleaner.
