'Acyclovir' - ointment against herpes

An effective modern medical tool to combat viral infections is Acyclovir. Ointment has an active effect on herpes viruses. • Prevention of recurrence of infections in the acute stage;

• Complex therapy of patients with weakened immunity;

• Primary and recurrent infections caused by the varicella-zoster virus and shingles;

• Genital herpes.

Method of applying ointment "Acyclovir Hexal"

The ointment is shown to be applied five times a day on the affected parts of the skin, while grasping the bordering surface. The procedure should be carried out with cleanly washed hands or a cotton swab to avoid exacerbation of the infection. "Acyclovir Ointment" is distributed evenly, in a thin layer. Treatment should continue until the formation of crust on the blisters of herpes. The duration of therapy is from 5 to 10 days.

The drug should be started at the moment, as soon as the first signs of the disease (itching, burning, redness, tingling) of the skin surface appear. The earlier the treatment is started, the sooner the rash will disappear. It is not recommended to apply the product on the area of the mucous membranes of the mouth and eyes, in order to avoid local pronounced inflammation.

When the disease is genital herpes it is necessary during the treatment to exclude sex or use condoms. Unprotected sex is dangerous through infection of a healthy partner.

Special Recommendations

Careful use of the drug is recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. During this period, the drug "Acyclovir Ointment" is prescribed in exceptional cases, when the disease passes in severe form and threatens a significant deterioration in the health of the future mother.

Long and repeated treatment of patients with a weak immune system leads to the emergence of strains of viruses. They are not able to react to the action of the drug. In most cases, there is a shortage of viral thymidine kinase.

Care must be taken in applying ointment to people with impaired renal function, elderly patients. During treatment, "Acyclovir" should monitor the concentration of blood urea, creatine plasma. During the period of application of the drug it is useful to drink more liquid.

Simultaneous use of immune stimulants and "Acyclovir" helps to strengthen the effect of the latter. In the case of taking nephrotoxic drugs, the risk of impaired renal function increases. With high individual sensitivity to the drug, it is recommended to stop using it.

Adverse Reactions

The adverse reactions of the drug include: skin peeling, dryness, hyperemia, allergic dermatitis. When the ointment gets on the mucous membranes, their inflammation is observed.
