A flower is a craton, or a ciconium. Home care

The flower craton, whose new name is a coda, has long been known to Europeans, but in Russian houses it is still quite a rare visitor. This original decorative deciduous plant is rather capricious: it does not tolerate the air of an ordinary apartment, apparently, therefore, it is not a widespread indoor culture. However, under flower-growing conditions, the flower craton is successfully grown and supplied to flower shops.

Codyium belongs to the family Euphorbia. Its height in natural conditions reaches up to three meters. The flower of the craton, the photo of which immediately reminds of which plant is at issue, came from the Malay Archipelago, where the humid tropical climate reigns.

Depending on the variety, the leathery glossy leaves of the coding are orange, yellow or red veins, contrasting prominently on the main green background. Their form is often narrow, oblong, with wavy edges. The leaves are arranged on short cuttings along the entire stem of the plant.

At home, the flower kraton develops very slowly, reaching an increase of only one meter. For normal development, it necessarily requires a place on the sunny side, otherwise it will lose its original coloration. However, direct rays for the coding are not desirable.

The flower craton does not like drafts and temperature changes, as its leaves become brown and curl when the amount of heat decreases, so it is not recommended to take it out into the open air.

In the room where this culture grows, it must necessarily be very humid - up to 80%. In the summer months when it becomes impossible to maintain such a level, the flower of the craton can be placed on a pallet with constantly wet pebbles or placed close to a large aquarium.

In the period from spring to late autumn, the soil in the pot must be kept in a constantly moist state, but without overflows to avoid decaying the root system. With a decrease in temperature, watering should be sharply reduced, although it is also impossible to overdry the plant, because in this case it can discard the foliage.

The flower craton is transplanted very carefully, so as not to damage the root system by accident . At the bottom of the new pot must be laid out a decent layer of drainage for the free flow of surplus water.

Immediately after the transplant, it is necessary to water these flowers abundantly. Craton, care for which requires compliance with certain conditions, almost does not bloom in captivity. However, in natural conditions, it annually produces nondescript white inflorescences.

The most favorable soil for this plant is a mixture of equal parts of leaf, turf, peat and humus earth with sand.

Every spring the flower should be pruned by pruning, removing all unnecessary shoots. If the coding is pulled upward and does not form lateral shoots, then the top should be plucked. Many plant growers do not know that this beautiful plant can be quite dangerous. The fact is that when pruning a flower, the craton produces toxic milky juice, which has the property of greatly irritating the skin, so when working with a coding formula, it is best to use gloves or wash hands thoroughly.

It is believed that this plant is able to clean the room from the negative. In addition, influencing the emotional state, the flower calms and promotes a pleasant rest.
