Zhukovsky Airport - how to get there and why

Rumors that the airport Zhukovsky will be rebuilt and will begin to work for civil aviation, appeared relatively recently. Almost five years of works of several large companies - and it is already before the summer is expected that in Moscow there will be another, fourth major transport hub that accepts international flights.

History

It appeared in 1941 and was originally intended exclusively for military and space needs. Then it was called Ramenskoye and served for test flights. Later, it was from this site that the "Burana" cargo aircraft was taken to Baikonur. So, before 1991, it was here that test flights of almost all domestic helicopters and other aircraft were conducted. Formally, it is still called Ramensky today, although several sources report from time to time about plans for adoption as the official name of the one used in everyday life almost from the moment of its appearance - Zhukovsky - by the name of the neighboring city.

Capabilities

On the territory of 950 hectares there are 2 runways, one of them being the longest in Russia and Europe. In addition, there are places for parking of aircraft, hangars, warehouses, various technical buildings designed for a variety of needs. Ramensky does not have any restrictions on the types of aircraft accepted or the take-off mass.

Nevertheless, until recently, undeveloped infrastructure and relatively poor transport accessibility did not allow us to consider the Zhukovsky airport as the fourth aircraft service serving the needs of the capital. Everything changed in 2014, when investors were found who were ready to invest over 10 billion rubles in the development of Ramensky.

Modern use

Since 1992, once in two years, the airport Zhukovsky takes the famous air show MAKS, which for a week gathers a huge number - more than a million viewers who want to admire the demonstration flights, look at old aircraft, go on an excursion. In addition, of course, experts and representatives of large companies of the industry come here to evaluate new products and, possibly, to conclude contracts.

Since 2010, also every two years, there is a forum devoted to domestic engineering, which is still less popular than MAKS, but has good prospects.

However, Zhukovsky airport for ten years - from 1991 to 2001 - was used and for its intended purpose, though not for a wide audience. From here flew a large number of commercial cargo flights, transit aircraft carried out refueling.

At some point, it became obvious that the capital's airports are loaded to the limit and simply can not cope with the load. And then, in addition to the partial reconstruction of existing harbors, it was decided to put into operation one more.

Location:

So, Zhukovsky airport - how to get to this air hub? It is located 20 kilometers to the south-east of the capital. It is expected that the road from the Kazan station to the airport on the so-called air express train will take no more than an hour. Zhukovsky International Airport will also be able to receive motorists, several parking lots with a total capacity of more than 10,000 cars are provided on its territory. Transport accessibility will also be provided through the reconstruction of Novoryazanskoye highway, which will become wider, which will provide greater capacity and reduce congestion.

Upcoming prospects

The first passenger terminal could open the doors in 2015, partially unloading the remaining airports. However, due to the fact that Dobrolyt, which was planned to be relocated here, in connection with Western sanctions ceased to exist, the beginning of the operation was postponed indefinitely. Now we are talking about the fact that basically the airport will be used by a subsidiary of Aeroflot called "Victory", also positioning itself in the market as a low-coster. In addition, some formalities are still to be resolved, for example, a government decree allowing flights from a new air hunt has not been issued.

Now it is said that the airport Zhukovsky, whose photo flashes in all the newspapers, will receive the first passengers before the end of May 2016. It is expected that already in this calendar period it will be able to serve the flow of almost 2 million people, slightly reducing the burden on the rest of the aircraft. It is possible that it is Zhukovsky will be the site of the so-called low-costers, who, because of the need for increased turnover of funds, need fast maintenance of their vessels and the maximum reduction in the time between landing and a new take-off.

Future plans

Already, the reconstruction of Zhukovsky is scheduled until 2021. Within its framework, two passenger terminals with a total area of about 60 thousand square meters will be built. It is expected that by the time the construction is completed, the maximum capacity will be 12 million passengers per year. Also, you do not always have to decide how to get to Zhukovsky airport, because when connecting flights you can spend the night in a local hotel, and not waste time on the road. In its territory there will be office buildings, a major maintenance point for aircraft, etc. In addition to obvious advantages, this will give local residents jobs.
