Many owners of their own homes are interested in the question of how to make furniture with their own hands. Of course, a wooden structure can be ordered. But if you create objects yourself, you can bring to life the most original and bold ideas. Let's consider further, as the manufacture of wooden furniture by own hands is carried out.

General information

Making wooden furniture with your own hands can well turn into a creative hobby. The resulting masterpieces can take a worthy place in the apartment or at the dacha. Created wooden furniture with their own hands can become a wonderful gift. The construction of objects for oneself is considered more a creative process than a technological operation.

Advantages of home production

Wooden furniture, made by own hands, is not only a matter of pride of the owner of a dwelling. From simple bars and planks, you can design many necessary things: from a stool to a bed or a closet. The most important thing is that the objects made by yourself will perfectly fit into the existing interior. It is also important that the manufactured furniture will be exclusive. After all, its creation will use its own schemes. Well, among other things, in the manufacturing process, you can practice in carpentry.

Preparation of tools

There are various adaptations with which help wooden furniture is assembled by oneself. Here you can not do with a hammer and a chisel. You will need a jig saw, a cutter, a screwdriver, a drill, a plane. A qualitative and easy-to-use tool is necessary not only in the preparation of elements. Special adaptations are also needed for decorative decoration of the legs, frontal parts, drilling under the fittings. The final result of the work depends on the quality of the instrument used, namely the appearance of the furniture. All devices can be divided into 2 groups: manual and electric. With their help you can carry out not only assembly, but also repair of wooden furniture with your own hands. Let us consider them briefly.

Electric tools

Wooden furniture is assembled with the help of the following devices:

  • Circular saw. This tool is used to create transverse and clean cuts. A saw blade cuts the wood, processes and produces elements, shaped blanks.
  • The bank. This tool is needed for surface treatment.
  • An electric hacksaw. With it, you can cut thick and large bars, as well as metal profiles. This tool is needed for rough processing of the material.

Hand tools

  • The easiest is the ax. With its use it is possible to split a tree, to hew, to cut. The carpenter's ax must be properly sharpened. If the chamfer of the tool has a concave shape, it will bounce off the material, thus reducing the quality of the work.
  • Shpuntubel used for sampling on the edges of grooves.
  • The face plane is needed for the machining of the end faces, respectively.
  • Gorbach (plan view) is used when working with figured (oval, cylindrical, convex, concave and other) surfaces.
  • Stap is used in the manufacture of troughs of different radius and size.
  • Fuganok is needed for planing and leveling a large surface.
  • A set of chisels is used for artistic carving. A straight chisel is used for stripping the background, "kosyachkom" - to perform geometric patterns. To create the necessary relief, the cranberry is used. To make volume elements and cut contours, use knifes-jambs.

Work plan

First of all, you need to make sketches, according to which wooden furniture will be collected by oneself. Drawings should contain all the necessary dimensions of future designs. It is desirable to draw a schematic drawing of the objects in the interior. If you intend to build complex designs, sketches can be made in several projections. After drawing up the scheme, you need to start preparing the material. Wooden furniture, made by hand, should look neat. Therefore, it is necessary to pre-treat all the parts, the areas of their connection. Docking points and dimensions must be exact and correspond to each other. Fixation of elements can be carried out with the help of metal corners. A very important point is the decorative processing of objects. Here you need to be extremely careful. Experts recommend first practice on the samples, drawing the boundaries of the proposed thread.

Console table

To produce this object, you need a plywood, the thickness of which is 1 cm. The ends of the sheet should be glued at once with a self-adhesive film. Smooth narrow strips can be a flat heavy object (an old iron, for example). Before starting work, the plywood should be thoroughly ground. Its surface should be smooth and even. Drill further you need to drill the holes in the joints. Self-tapping screws will be screwed into them. The table will consist of 3 wide pieces, made in the form of the letter "P". For greater stability, two narrow boards should be screwed to each element. For a better connection from the edges of the plywood, you should retreat by two to three centimeters. On the sides there is a thin, narrow rack. It will hide the joints. For fixing, PVA or simple joiner glue is suitable . On the underside of the tabletop, pre-prepared metal corners should be fixed. They are fixed on self-tapping screws. Lubricating the joints with glue, it is necessary to attach the countertop to the supports and to pull both sides at a right angle. For more convenience, rollers are screwed to the feet at the bottom. Drill a hole in the shape of the wheel. The roller is fixed with bolts, which, as a rule, are present in the kit. Here you should try to fix the elements on one level.

Suspended shelving

To make it easy to construct, it is better to apply plywood. In accordance with the expected number of shelves are prepared. Each member drills 4 holes at a distance of 2-3 cm from the edges. After that, shelves should be covered with water-repellent paint. Its color is selected in accordance with the range of the interior. To fasten the shelves, you need two strong and long ropes. They pass through holes, cross over at the top. Under the bottom shelf, tighten the knots tightly. Next, you need to prepare small-sized wooden sticks. They are needed to maintain the same distance and fix the shelves at one level. Sticks are inserted between the rope strands. Suspended rack is ready. It can be hung on the wall and stored on the shelves of various items: pots with flowers, books, vases, photographs. The design will perfectly fit into almost any interior. Such a rack can be of any size. But the design does not take much space.

Restoration of wooden furniture with your own hands

Sometimes you need to refresh the objects in the house, breathe new life into them. Restoration of wooden furniture with their own hands is carried out according to a certain plan:

  • Elimination with subsequent replacement of old fasteners, loops and other, in case they become unreliable.
  • Removing the old cover. You can use special compositions to remove the paint. With this solution, the coating is quickly removed from the surface. If there are metal parts in the structure that rust has touched, they should also be treated with special cleaning compounds. If necessary, you can clean the surface with a hard brush. After removing the coating, all parts must be washed quickly under running water. Do not keep wooden elements under the jet for too long. Otherwise, the water will be absorbed into the parts and they will deform.
  • Drying. It should be carried out whenever possible in the open air. In this case, do not place the elements under the scorching rays.
  • Putty. It is not needed in all cases. For example, when restoring oak structures, putty is not used.
  • Painting. As a coating, acrylic can be used. This composition, among other things, will protect parts from destruction. Painting wooden furniture with your own hands can be carried out with a brush, roller or aerosol can. Typically, the coating is applied in 2-3 layers, each of which must dry well.
