Wiring diagram of the motion sensor for lighting

Man's desire for comfort is unchanged. Household amenities are created by utilities, for which they take an appropriate fee, and everything else, as for the improvement of comfort, people do themselves. When a small child appears in the family, each of his trips to the bathroom or toilet is accompanied by requests to turn on the light, so one of the parents must help. Outputs all are different, and many decide to connect the motion sensor to the light bulb.

What is this device?

You've heard about it, maybe even more than once, but most likely you do not particularly understand its purpose and characteristics. Connecting the motion sensor for lighting allows you to automatically turn on the light when a person appears in the field of his review. You can describe the principle of its operation in general terms. When an activity appears on the monitored area, the motion sensor relay closes the electrical circuit, which causes the light to turn on. The device is switched off after some time after the person disappears from the field of view of the sensor, it is set individually.

IS-215

Before considering the connection scheme of the motion sensor, it is necessary to say which models can be used for such purposes. For example, a good option may be a security sensor IS-215. Its standard power supply is 12 volts with a normally closed contact group. A light control circuit can be connected to it, which will then be installed in the room of interest. In this case, the connection scheme of the motion sensor is selected with a fairly simple principle of action: when there is some activity in the field of view, the circuit closes, which leads to switching on the lighting devices connected to the sensor. If there is no movement, the circuit opens automatically, turning off the lamp.

Lack of such a solution

The sensor works well. If you use it in the restroom, then at the entrance there is an automatic switching on of the lighting, and a minute after it leaves the light gently fades. The drawback in this case is noted only one, but very significant: if for a minute to be in the toilet motionless, the light goes out, so you need at least to move your hand to extend the time. A weak click of the relay indicates that the sensor has detected movement.

DD-008

If you are intimidated by a complicated scheme for connecting a motion sensor, you can buy an already finished device - DD-008. Its feature is the presence of a pair of hinges that rotate the sensor. Such a device is placed so as to maximally cover the bathroom room.

This version of the sensor has adjusting settings: the time interval of switching off, the sensitivity and the level of illumination. The first parameter is designed to set the time during which the light will remain on after the motion is detected. Its limits range from ten seconds to seven minutes. The level of illumination depends on the time of day. If during the day, the sensor detects movement, but at the same time the room has enough natural light, it does not work. In this there is logic. After all, in the daytime in a well-lit room, you do not need to turn on the light. Sensitivity is another adjustment setting. The higher this parameter, the faster the sensor responds.

Problems of operation

A week later, many such a connection scheme for the motion sensor for lighting, as described above, may fail. The device can burn, as well as the incandescent lamp used in the bubble. Typically, the thyristor burns in the control circuit. The fact is that it is inappropriate to use discharge lamps to connect a sensor. Due to the burning of the filament of the lighting lamp, a current jump occurs, which is analogous to a short circuit. If there are no additional fuses in the load circuit, this results in a loss of the thyristor.

It is possible to unify the light control scheme for any lamps. The relay circuit is convenient, but it makes no sense to develop it independently, you can buy a ready-made solution, namely the sensor DD-009. The connection scheme of the motion sensor assumes the mandatory use of protection devices in the form of fuses, otherwise the manufacturer does not guarantee reliable operation. Some install directly into the body of the device and the fuse itself, and a neon lamp. DD-009 differs from DD-008 by the presence of only a couple of settings - the duration of the light-off delay and the sensitivity. For the restroom, this set is enough.

At the moment there is such a vast assortment of motion sensors on sale that there simply is no sense in soldering the control schemes for light. And such an acquisition solves a rather important task - no one will need to constantly take care of turning on and off the lights in the bathroom and toilet.

What does the market offer?

The market offers a huge variety of motion sensors. For each specific task there is a separate view. For example, some devices are better placed in a corridor or other room, through which they often pass, but do not stay there. The sensor detects motion, and the time delay of light on is kept to a minimum. In the bathroom or toilet, such a device can not be installed strictly, otherwise for constant lighting in the room you need to make some movements. That's why it's so important to look at the device's passport to learn its characteristics before applying in each case. As the main parameter, which you need to navigate, you can name the duration of the light-off delay after stopping movement in the room.

Where to install?

The connection of the motion sensor to the bulb must be made depending on the room parameters and the location of the doors. There is one important rule: the device responds well to any movement, but not to a direct approach or distance from it. That's why it's best to install it on the ceiling or on the side wall. It must necessarily capture the opening door with its field of vision, then it will work before the person enters the room.

Closed room

One can consider the case when it is necessary to install a sensor in a corridor with several doors and without windows. In this case, the absence of window openings is even convenient, since there is no need to configure different levels of illumination. It is quite appropriate sensor, triggered by every movement in the corridor, regardless of the time of day. If there is one door on each side, then the task becomes a little more complicated, since it requires simultaneous control of all of them so that the person who enters the corridor does not fall into the darkness.

For example, the connection scheme of the Legrand motion sensor assumes its installation in a corner of the room, since its view is 120 degrees. In the middle of the wall it should not be mounted, as this will result in the loss of one door from the field of view. In this case, when you open three doors, the light will turn on at once, and for the fourth one there will be some delay.

Staircase

The lighting of the staircase is carried out by the fact that the sensor is mounted on a wall or ceiling above the staircase so that the entire flight of stairs is in the area of its coverage. Lighting devices should be fixed in the same way. For lighting in this case, the period can be set to a small - 1-3 minutes, this will be quite enough.

Now the devices of IEK are popular. The connection diagram of the IEK motion sensor involves setting certain parameters for it. The sensitivity should be in the absence of light maximum, and at some level of illumination - the average or minimum. A multi-storey house requires a special lighting plan. If the building has three floors, then two sensors are required, if there are four or three sensors. When fixing the movement on some part of the staircase, the entire path for the person will be illuminated by the corresponding device. You can go down and climb the fully lit stairs.

Utility rooms

In utility rooms or in storeroom rooms, the connection scheme of the motion sensor assumes its installation above the entrance door or slightly to the side, it all depends on the layout of the particular room. It is necessary to adjust the device so that the interval of switching off the light is maximum, and the threshold should be selected depending on the constant level of illumination. When a person appears in the room, the sensor is triggered and the light will be on for 10-15 minutes. If a person needs more time, then you can wave your hand so that the light continues to burn. If there are shelves in the room or its division into several rooms, the scheme of connection of two traffic sensors or more of them is used. With the correct installation of detectors, the convenience for the person in the room will be maximum.

Street lighting for car parking

Connecting the motion sensor to the projector is appropriate for lighting large areas on the street. Selection of the projector is carried out depending on the required power, that is, the brightness of the lighting that is needed, and it should be fixed at a sufficient height near the parking lot. Sensitivity of the sensor should be medium or minimum, which excludes the inclusion of light in the daytime. And the operating time should be maximum, that is 10-15 minutes depending on the specific model. If traffic is detected on the parking lot, the projector will turn on for 10-15 minutes. The use of such a sensor brings additional benefit in the form of scaring off unwanted guests who have come to the parking lot, because the sharply activated bright light will frighten off intruders.

Features of the installation

Connecting the motion sensor to the bulb must be done so that the Fresnel lens - the main element of this device - is free of various objects that can block the view. For the motion sensor, the viewing angle is the main characteristic. Fresnel lenses are embossed films or sheets that are placed around the circumference. Under their control there is a fan division of the observation area. These lenses receive, focus and change infrared rays, including a sensor, located in the depth of the device. If required, it is possible to limit the radius of observation of the lens due to the fact that individual segments of the "fan" will be covered with an insulating tape or a self-adhesive.

This is how the infrared sensor works. The connection scheme in this case is selected depending on the tasks assigned. You can consider several of the most convenient options.

Connecting the device

The connection diagram of the security motion sensor, like the lighting one, is usually shown directly on the body of the device. From the device itself comes three wires that are connected to the junction box. The colors of the wires are blue, brown and red. They may be different, but the connection scheme of the motion sensor is traditionally given for the wires of the above colors.

It is possible that you will need the control switch left, which will work in parallel with the sensor. This is often necessary in rooms where sometimes it is required to keep the light on for quite a long time. In this case, the switch will be in the "on" position, then the light will be on continuously. Otherwise, it will only light up when the device is triggered.

conclusions

Connecting two motion sensors is also quite a challenge, because they need to be connected to a circuit with one lighting device. When all the installation work is completed, you need to check the operation of the device. If the light in the room turns on immediately after you enter there, then you made the settings correctly.

Now you know how to connect the motion sensor for lighting. All the best!
