Why is Barceloneta the Perfect Place for a Rest?

In Barceloneta, the spirit of the Mediterranean reigns - the narrow streets, hanging clothes outside the windows and, of course, the sea air, which you want to breathe in full. Due to its bright personality, this quarter has become one of the most popular places in Barcelona. Many tourists come here to relax on the beach or stroll through the port. Although most visitors to Barcelona prefer to rent apartments in the center, Barceloneta can offer much more than a beach holiday or a walk along the waterfront. Here are just some reasons to choose this part of the city for recreation.

Unique urban landscape

Earlier, in the place of Barceloneta, the fishing quarter was located. However, after the 1992 Olympic Games, Barceloneta completely changed its appearance, all the beaches and the Old Port (Port Vell) were refurbished, and the quarter turned into one of the best walking areas in the city.

Conditionally, Barceloneta can be divided into two parts. On the one hand - it's the sea and the port with restaurants and cafes for every taste, the famous beaches and the promenade leading to the Olympic Porto (Puerto Olímpico) and numerous bars. On the other hand, the center of the quarter, which has retained its original appearance, with its narrow streets, small cafes, restaurants and the market.

Gastronomy

One of the significant advantages of this part of the city is the excellent seafood. Every morning, fresh fish and seafood are delivered to local restaurants directly from the fishermen. Paella (paella), fideuá (fideuá), squid in Roman (calamares a la romana), mussels are a real paradise for gourmets. In Barceloneta you will find the best restaurants, in Can Ramonet and Can Gananassa you will be offered a wide choice of tapas from fish and seafood, and in Can Majó you should definitely try an excellent paella and fish stew (suquet de peix).

Be sure to visit one of the restaurants in the port, or in the heart of the Barceloneta quarter, if you want to taste traditional Catalan dishes of superb quality!

Convenient location

The quarter is located just 15 minutes walk from the famous Ramblas (Las Ramblas) and 10 minutes from the Olympic Port. Such a convenient location will allow you to walk around the city on foot. You can also reach anywhere in the city on one of the many buses, if you prefer the metro, then you have the yellow line station, Barceloneta.

Barceloneta is also famous for its rich nightlife, the most famous clubs and bars of the city are just 10 minutes walk, right on the beach of the Olympic Port. Going for a walk day or night, you can be calm - the area is notable for its security. Nevertheless, it is better not to leave your things unattended, especially on the beach, do not leave things in the car and do not walk along the street with a purse in your hand.

Barceloneta is the ideal place to rent an apartment in Barcelona, for family holidays, and for a company of friends or a loving couple. You will certainly be satisfied!

Attention!

On the street parking is allowed only to permanent residents, non-observance of this rule is punishable by a fine.

Do you know that...

The district of Barceloneta was formed in the 18th century, when more than a thousand houses were demolished in the Ribera zone (which was the economic center of the city between the 13th and 15th centuries), for the construction of the fortress Citadel (Ciutadella). In order to accommodate their inhabitants a new district was built - Barceloneta. Buildings in this area were built no higher than two floors, so as not to prevent the launch of shells from the Citadel.

Because of its location, this area was considered quite dangerous for many years, because it was subjected to numerous attacks from the sea, but later turned into a quiet fishing quarter.
