Why cauliflower is not tied: the main reasons

Cauliflower is not an ordinary vegetable garden. This is the rare case when food is not consumed by fruits, roots or even leaves, and unopened inflorescences. They are fried, marinated, salted or used as one of the ingredients of vegetable salads.

Is it easy to grow a plant like cauliflower? Cultivation and care of this culture requires certain rules: timely planting, temperature regime, regular watering and periodic fertilization. Cauliflower is a photophilous, heat-loving and hygrophilous plant, but with the right agricultural techniques, you can get an excellent harvest.

However, often in the beds the following phenomenon is observed - cauliflower is not tied, that is, inflorescences are not formed, which are used for food. Or, unrevealed buds appear, but they do not combine into a dense and dense inflorescence, but they look friable and sparse.

So, let's try to answer the question why cauliflower is not tied. After all, if there are no ovaries, there will be no harvest. Meanwhile, cauliflower is several times larger than the starter protein, vitamin C and mineral salts, so it will be a very significant loss for our diet.

The first reason why cauliflower is not tied is the wrong choice of variety. Certain hybrids and some zoned varieties are too sensitive even to insignificant fluctuations in temperature and humidity, and under stress conditions do not form ovaries.

Another reason why cauliflower is not tied is an error in choosing the time of sowing. Despite the fact that this plant is rather thermophilic, the ovaries are formed at a temperature of no higher than + 18 ° C. A lower temperature leads to a slowed development, but the inflorescence turns out to be larger. Therefore, seeds and seedlings need to be planted with that account, so that bud formation occurs before the heat (early varieties) or after it (late varieties).

Another typical reason why cauliflower is not tied is irregular irrigation. This culture is hygrophilous, and especially a lot of fluid is required during the period of the inflorescence and the formation of a leafy rosette.

Contrary to popular belief, the lack of nutrients on the bed does not prevent the formation of buds, but the head turns loose and sparse. The same can be observed in case of lack of moisture. But the excess fertilizer harms much more seriously - the growth is green leaves that are not eaten, and as a result, large green bushes without cabbages form on the beds. One of the frequent mistakes in the cultivation of cauliflower is the breaking off of the lower rosette leaves. Although they are not used for food, they serve as a storehouse of nutrients for the inflorescence. Therefore, the head begins to form only after the formation of 7-9 rosette covering leaves.

To obtain a large, dense white inflorescence, it is recommended to slightly shade the head from direct sunlight after the formation of the ovaries. To do this, you can use any of the auxiliary materials, but the easiest way is to slightly break and tilt the upper rosette leaves or just tie them over the inflorescences.
