Why can there be brown discharge after menstruation?

Vaginal discharge is a normal property of the female body. But only in the case when they are transparent and have no smell. When they acquire a yellowish or greenish shade, unpleasant and sharp smell, are purulent or similar to cottage cheese, it is necessary to consult a doctor: the development of diseases of the reproductive system is possible.

Brown discharge after menstruation appears very often and causes severe anxiety in women. There are several factors that cause such an organism reaction:

  1. Development of endometriosis: in this case, dark brown discharge is characteristic after menstruation or even with blood clots. This disease is characterized by an increase in endometrial tissue cells within certain organs: the bladder, the vagina, even the tear duct. Characteristically, the secretions can be constant in this case, and after the menstrual periods become less intense.
  2. The emergence of anemometrite. This disease is provoked by inflammation of the mucous membrane of the uterus. It is characterized by dark brown discharge during ovulation, as well as before and after menstruation. Causes of the disease - a different kind of infection, hormonal failure, a sharp decrease in immunity. There may be pain in the area of the uterus and ovaries. Often doctors recommend pregnant women with chronic endometritis to be under strict supervision in order to avoid miscarriage.
  3. Another disease that can cause brown discharge after menstruation is endometrial hyperplasia (the appearance of a benign tumor). As a rule, the discharge appears immediately before menstruation and does not pass long enough afterwards. The cause of the occurrence is a violation of the hormonal background, as well as instability of the metabolism. As a rule, the disease can be hereditary or acquired as a result of diseases of the genitals, as well as high blood pressure.
  4. One of the factors that cause this kind of secretion is the uterine polyps. They are usually common in women in the post-menopausal period, as well as in girls in adolescence. The causes of polyps: trauma, a tendency to develop tumors, locally inflammation, endocrine disruption.
  5. Long-term use of hormonal contraceptives. In this case, there are also dark secretions after menstruation. They are considered normal, if repeated, on average, after three months after the start of use of the drug. This cause is considered to be the easiest, because its consequences are often eliminated on their own and quickly. When the discharge becomes more abundant, the situation becomes worse, as a rule, the gynecologist recommends either using other methods of protection, or switching to a combination of several methods.
  6. Interruption of medication for the artificial termination of pregnancy or small surgical operations on the genitals. Brown discharges after menstruation in this case are considered normal only when their duration e exceeds 10 days. Otherwise, a specialist consultation is required.
  7. It is also possible the appearance of such secretions during pregnancy. In this situation, the complexity of the case can only be determined by the doctor when examined or after ultrasound. If the discharge occurs together with a decrease in blood pressure, a piercing bolus appears in the lower abdomen, the head turns and the pulse rate rises , and an ectopic pregnancy can develop.
  8. The detachment of the placenta is another possible cause. Typically, the phenomenon occurs a week before the onset of discharge. In this case, there are pains in the lower abdomen, in the lower back, resembling "light fights".

Note that any discharge that has an unpleasant odor or shade should be alerted, and a visit to the doctor should not be postponed!
