Why and when does the child change eye color?

From the first day after the appearance of the baby, new parents are trying to understand who the child is more like. And if the shape of the eyebrows or chin still somehow can give an answer to such questions, then the color of the eyes is unlikely. At birth, many have a blue iris, but when a child's eye color changes, they may turn out to be green and gray.

How does the appearance of the baby change?

The appearance of the baby can seriously change within a few months after birth. The outline of the body, the shape of the nose and the color of the eyes change especially noticeably. Children born just a few days ago usually have a more prominent belly, a swollen chest and an elongated body. Sometimes children have slightly oblique noses, which soon assume an absolutely normal shape. Finally, the iris is often bright blue, but over time, the color of the eyes changes in children.

Why the color of the eyes changes

The eye of the child is arranged in the same way as in the adult. It includes the optic nerves, the cornea and the lens. The visual acuity of the newborn is reduced and increases with every day, striving for the adult norm. Already on the eighth day after childbirth the baby can focus his sight on specific objects for a few seconds. After a couple of months, the eye begins to linger longer, and in six months the child already discerns the shape of objects. In a year the baby can recognize even the pictures. The color of the iris of the child is determined by the pigment melanin. A large number of it provides a person with brown eyes, and if melanin is small, the eyes will be gray. Melanin does not affect the ability to see and appears after a couple of years, when the child's eye color changes permanently. To predict in advance what color the eyes will be is difficult, but brown-eyed people are usually more than light-eyed, so if the mother or father has dark eyes, the children are likely to be brown too. Each person's pigment production process is different, so sometimes it turns out that when a child changes eye color for the first time, this may not be the last option, and in a couple of months there will be new changes. The main thing that should be followed is the color of the pupil. If the pupils of the child are cloudy and opaque, this may be the reason for the visit to the oculist. Prevent eye disease in time is very important, so the color of the pupil really needs to pay attention. But the color of the eyes is not so important if the baby is happy and healthy.

Some statistics

Most often, when a child changes his eye color, he turns out to be brown-eyed - this is the most common color on the planet. The rarest shade is green, out of a hundred children, only two eyes will have such eyes, and in some countries people with such iris color can not be found at all. In addition, one toddock of a hundred turns out to have eyes of different colors. This phenomenon is called heterochromia, and it is not a visual defect . Genetics believe that parents with eyes of different colors will have a child whose iris will represent something in between the shades of the eyes of mom and dad, unless, of course, one of them is brown-eyed.
