When are Artem's birthday days celebrated?

The name Artem comes from the name of the goddess Artemis, who was the patroness of procreation and fertility. In the ancient world, such a thing as name-days did not exist. It appeared in Russia in the seventeenth century and has a Catholic-Orthodox history of origin. It is believed that the name day is the day of the memory of a certain saint, and a person bearing an appropriate name can commemorate this day. The namesakes were especially relevant in the pre-revolutionary period, when a person received a church name during the baptismal ceremony, and with him - a patron in heaven.

Artem's names are celebrated several times a year. First, on January 17 - this date recall one of the seventy apostles, whom Jesus Christ chose besides the top twelve. Among them is the Bishop of Lystry, Artem. He preached at Listarch. He is mentioned among the apostles by the holy Apostle Paul. The revered one is commemorated on November 12th.

Secondly, on February 26 and November 13, the day of the righteous Artyom of Palestine is celebrated. Thirdly, the name day of Artem is celebrated on the sixth of April in memory of Saint Artemia, Bishop of Solun. He was appointed by the apostle Paul as the first bishop of the city of Seleucia and, until old age, took care of his flock, protecting the persecuted and the poor.

Unlike previous dates, on May 12, the name day of Artem is celebrated in honor of the martyr Artem Kizichesky, who was killed among nine supporters of Christ in the city of Kizik, where pagan beliefs dominated. Many miraculous healings subsequently occurred from their relics, and in Rus near Kazan a monastery was built in their honor.

On July 6, Artem's name-days are celebrated in connection with the name of the youth of Artem Verkolsky, who is a very revered saint in the north of Russia. He was a painful and kind boy, who was taken to heaven at the age of 12 through a lightning strike. His body was found incorrupt, surrounded by the radiance of the rays, thirty-two years after the funeral outside the cemetery (those who were killed by the storm in those days were not buried at the graveyard). For many years, the boy's relics were on the porch of the temple, where many miracles and healings were revealed. Later, he was ranked among the saints. Also, the name day of Artem according to the church calendar in honor of this saint is celebrated on the second of November.

On November 2, another great martyr named Artem is also remembered. Artemy of Antioch was a great commander under the rule of King Constantine the Great. When the power changed and on the throne the pagan Julian reigned, Artemy opposed him. After that, the commander was seized, brutally tortured and finally beheaded. Artemy predicted the death of the emperor, who, in battle with the Persians, was wounded by an invisible weapon and, dying, said: "You conquered, Galilean!"

When are the events related to the name Artem? Name days (angel's day), it turns out, you can celebrate several times during the year. However, it must be remembered that the day of the angel in accordance with strict ecclesiastical interpretation is the date of the adoption of the sacrament of Baptism, which does not always coincide with the days of veneration of saints.
