What is the degradation of nature?

Talks about what is the degradation of nature have been going on for many decades. However, it was only in the 70s of the last century that the analysis of this problem began to be approached from a rational point of view. During this period, in almost all developed countries, special structures began to be created that were supposed to deal with problems of nature conservation. It is to this point that the degradation of the environment has reached a level where it has become impossible to ignore negative phenomena. It should be noted that in previous years local ecological catastrophes took place in different countries and in different territories.

Of course, this problem has been known to mankind for a long time. If we ask ourselves what degradation is in a concrete sense, then the answers will be different. Already in ancient civilizations, farmers faced the problem of soil depletion. With unsystematic management of agriculture for several years, the fields reduced their yields to critical indicators. People had no choice but to move to another place and start all over again. Such a method of survival, or else it can not be called, was used for a long historical period. However, with the growth of the population, suitable for cultivation of land became scarce.

According to British scientists, in 1750 the world's population was only 500 million people. In 2002, there were more than 6 billion people. By the thirteenth year, this figure exceeded the bar of 7 billion. Such an explosive increase radically changes the quality of the habitat. Every person who comes into the world experiences, to a certain extent, what degradation of the living space is. Today, in many densely populated regions of Europe, Asia and Africa, the problem of providing the population with drinking water is acute. Meanwhile, the rivers dry up due to the intensive deforestation of forests.

According to calculations carried out with the help of mathematical modeling, the area of forest cover on the planet was reduced by almost 50% compared to the figure that was five thousand years ago. Today, forests are being cut down intensively. As a result, rapid degradation of the animal world occurs. Animals disappear with catastrophic speed. To this phenomenon, we must add that the volume of human waste is also increasing rapidly. Figuratively speaking, our planet is gradually turning into a big dump. All these problems can not but disturb the progressive part of mankind, and certain measures are already being taken.

Now, when many already know what degradation is, various programs are being developed to improve the current situation. At the UN, a special structure has been created , which conducts a multifaceted work in this direction. Various expert councils and commissions have been created that evaluate the newly created projects and work with existing enterprises. The famous environmental organization Greenpeace conducts observations and carries out examinations in all problem regions. There is every reason to believe that mankind will find a way out of this situation.
