What if I broke my leg?

Constant temperature changes, characteristic of Russian winters, lead to a constant ice. It is not surprising that trauma centers at this time of year receive a large number of patients every day with fractures of the shins, hands and even ribs. It is possible that on the street you will witness such an event. For example, if a woman has broken your leg before your eyes, you will be able to give her first aid on her own, waiting for the arrival of an ambulance.

The most common causes of injuries

According to experts, most often in the off-season to the doctors are addressed by elderly women. Such complaints as "broke a leg", "bruised the tailbone", "dislocated the wrist", unfortunately, occur almost as often as colds. Speaking directly about the lower extremities, they suffer most often. The fact is that a person, especially if he is in poor physical condition, falls directly on his leg, and piles on it with all his weight or tucks it under him. In addition, damage can occur when falling from height and during an accident. Also, any doctor can tell you a lot of cases when a woman broke her leg in the gym, dropping a heavy barbell or dumbbell.

Symptoms

If a person broke your leg, what should you do? First of all, make sure that this is really a turning point. Orientation should be followed by signs such as rapidly increasing edema, severe pain, deformity of the limb (the latter is caused by the displacement of bone fragments). With an ankle fracture, as a rule, the foot turns out under a wrong, unnatural angle.

First aid

Your friend or just a casual passer-by broke his leg, and you were close? Begin to act immediately. First of all, give the injured limb the correct position: gently grasp one hand by the heel, and the other - by the fingers, gently pull on yourself. After that, quickly remove the shoes from the victim. If you do not do it right away, then getting rid of a boot or boot will be much more difficult because of the increasing swelling. As is known, all fractures are divided into open and closed. If you see that the bones stick out of the wound, do not try to fix them yourself. It is also strictly forbidden to remove foreign objects from the wound. Instead, stop bleeding, treat the skin with a disinfectant (in extreme cases you can wipe it with wet napkins) and put a bandage on the wound. Now you can move on to immobilization of the victim.

Carrying

It is better to put tires at once. If this is not possible, use improvised means, any smooth sticks, rods, planks will do. Put them on the inside and outside of the foot and fix with a scarf, jacket or any other clothing.

Rehabilitation

A broken leg in a plaster, of course, will bring a lot of inconvenience to a person. He can not walk at once, and for the first time will have to use crutches or a cane. After removing the bandage, doctors recommend wearing special shoes and not loading the limbs too much.
