What does darkening in the lungs mean?
Doctors recommend taking fluorography at least once a year in order to identify various serious diseases on time in this study. The result may be normal, but may show a blackout in the lungs. What does the latter mean and should we panic?
To begin with, it is important to seek clarification from a specialist who is likely to prescribe an additional examination. If there is a blackout in the lungs, the causes can be completely different, ranging from pneumonia and ending with the cancer of this organ. And in some cases, there is simply a poor-quality picture. Therefore, it is worth remembering that the diagnosis of only one shot, not appointing additional tests and studies, the doctor has no right.
Sometimes darkening in the lungs can signify the consequences of pneumonia or a transferred bronchitis. On the lung tissue, nodules are formed, which subsequently dissolve independently, however, in order to verify this, it will be necessary to resort once again to X-ray examination.
A common cause of this indicator is tuberculosis, and in most cases, this disease captures the upper parts of the lung. In order to immediately exclude or confirm this diagnosis, experts are likely to advise an additional examination, which can not be ignored. With the confirmation of this disease, long-term serious treatment will be required, and the sooner it begins, the greater the chances of overcoming the disease. After the transferred tuberculosis there are scars that can also look like a blackout of the lungs. In this case, it is worthwhile to inform the doctor (if there are no notes on the medical record), in order to avoid new examinations and misdiagnosis.
A similar picture on an X-ray can be given and diseases such as acute or chronic pneumonia. In the treatment of the disease, the dimming data, most often, disappear or gradually become almost invisible.
It is much more difficult to determine the cancer of this organ or a benign bronchial tumor, which also manifests itself as a blackout in the lungs during fluorography. In this case, perhaps, the doctor will have to take a piece of tissue for research, which is quite a serious procedure, conducted in a hospital. An important role is played by the anatomical boundaries of this symptom, since they can capture both the entire organ and a small part of it. In addition, the shadows can be uniform or heterogeneous, which is taken into account by the specialist in describing the image.
Foreign bodies trapped in the bronchi may also appear on the X-ray in this way. Most often, such a nuisance can happen in young children. In most cases, surgical intervention may be necessary.
In smokers, whose experience is more than 10 years, blackout occurs in the lungs quite often. However, a specialist can quickly distinguish such a picture from a really serious disease. In this case, it is worth remembering that any deviation from the norm can eventually develop into a disease, so this symptom can be a serious reason for parting with a bad habit and a signal to do their own health.
It is worth noting that panic when a "speck" appears on the picture is not needed. How serious the disease, which became his cause, will be determined only by the doctor and only after additional tests. It is now possible to cure very many diseases (and prevent unwanted complications), even such as tuberculosis and lung cancer. However, it is important to start therapy on time and observe all the advice of the attending physician.
