We measure the thread pitch with a threadmeter.

The joining of several component parts using threaded parts is called a threaded connection. What is a carving? These are successive cavities and protrusions on the outer or inner surface of the product, the parts. This location is along the helix and ensures the connection of the two elements.

The thread is made in several ways. In each of them the thread pitch is of primary importance, therefore, proceeding from this parameter, one discerns: threaded threads on the products of thin-walled metal, rolled with the help of special machines. The latter, in addition to being manufactured on lathes, can be cut manually with a tap or a die.

For each metal and non-metallic product containing threaded elements, there are special and versatile tools. Each threaded type needs its own tool, which will provide the required thread pitch, its shape, profile and, of course, accuracy.

The control is carried out first of all over the step and profile shape, and then over the diameters - inside and outside.

How to determine the thread pitch using a caliper and a measuring ruler? With the above tools, we measure the length of two or three thread steps, and then divide them by the number of steps.

The internal and external threads can also be measured with a thread-gauge. This tool has a scale where the thread pitch is indicated. We make measurements by selecting the appropriate plate. It is necessary that the teeth of the plate come tightly into the thread to be measured. Clearances are not allowed. And if everything is done according to the instructions, the standard thread pitch will correspond to the size indicated on the threader plate.

Further, the average thread diameter is measured. A micrometer can be used for this purpose. With the help of a set of special tips, measurements of various thread diameters are made. Each tip has its maximum size. For example, on a micrometer there is a mark M 3-4.5, so this meter can make metric thread measurements within the range of 3 to 4.5 mm.

The threaded profile is checked using a template. If there is a need for more precise control, then special microscopes are used.

Conventional thread gauges are used to measure the thread pitch in those products and parts where accuracy is not so important. This is as follows: a normal threaded ring is screwed onto the screw, and, shaking it in different directions, judge the accuracy of the thread. In this way, the external thread is checked. Now consider how to determine the pitch of the thread of the inner diameter. This will require a normal threaded plug (normal - this is the size). The smooth end of the gauge serves to measure the internal diameter of the thread.

Threads with a high accuracy factor are checked by limiting threaded calibers. The smooth (passing) end of the caliber, as mentioned above, must completely and freely enter the threaded hole. At the non-stop end, several threaded turns are applied, which must not be screwed into the hole.

Internal thread cutting manually

For manual threading , a threading tool is used. To cut the internal thread, you must first drill a hole in the part. Here it is necessary to take into account the thread pitch, on which the drill size depends. Next, using a tap, turning it clockwise, cut the thread, from time to time twisting the tap back to remove chips and lubricating it with oil.

So, from this article you learned how to determine the thread pitch, how to cut the thread manually and what are the threads.
