Vyritsa (Leningrad region) - a wonderful holiday village

On the left bank of the River Oredj, 60 km south of St. Petersburg, is a small town of Vyritsa. The Leningrad Region, in the territory of which this settlement is located, has 17 districts and one city district. Vyritsa belongs to the Gatchina district, and from it to the regional center of Gatchina - only 32 km.

In ancient times, until the 18th century, the territory on which the present Vyritsa (Leningrad region) is located, belonged to the Votian Pyatine, an administrative and territorial unit used in Novgorod Russia. The land between the rivers Volkhov and Luga, the tributary of which is Oredj, belonged to this five-ninth Novgorod land. On the western outskirts of the village there were preserved mounds of the 11th-12th centuries. The remarkable hunting castle of Wittgensteins, as well as several other old cottages erected at the beginning of the last century, survived to this day. There is a dam of the former hydroelectric power station in the village, which is a place for walking and a peculiar sight. To get here the easiest way is by train from Vitebsk railway station, and from Gatchina it is possible to go by numerous buses which leave on the average in 15 minutes.
