Understand the notion: a metropolis is ...?

Today, rural life is almost no one is attracted, and all young people are striving to get into the city. Particularly attractive for most people are megacities. And let there problems with "green zones", but there are a lot of opportunities for development and career growth.

About the concept

In this article I want to talk about what a metropolis is. It is a huge city, in which more than a million people live. In short, this is true, but there are many nuances. If you look at history, you can say that this concept arose in the far 1676. It was introduced by the traveler Thomas Herbert, who thus decided to call all the capitals of the major countries in which he happened to visit. If we talk about today, this concept was somewhat transformed. Today, the metropolis is the union of several nearby cities into one. It is noteworthy that after such a merger, the economy, infrastructure, etc. become single and common for one big city.

Population

What is the difference between a metropolis? This is population. Often such cities are crowded with residents, the density of accommodation is quite high. Interesting is the fact that there are few indigenous people in megacities, the bulk of people are visitors.

Area

We understand further in the concept of "metropolis". What it is? It is worth noting that such large cities, in addition to population, still differ in area. On the territory of a megapolis there are usually a lot of not only important structures for his life, but also about five different modes of transport, which, incidentally, do not depend on each other. An example is Tokyo, where people move by metro, buses, monorail, high-speed trains and commuter trains. Also there it is possible to transport by helicopters.

Real megacities

People used to call the term "metropolis" all the cities that are densely populated by people. However, this is not entirely true. It will be interesting to note that in the world there are only 5 such cities, according to UNESCO. The only and largest megacities are the Tokyo-Yokohama tandem, with a population of more than 28 million people, Bombay with nineteen million inhabitants, São Paulo and Mexico City, home to 16 million people, and New York, home to 16.5 million,

Forecasts

Urbanization processes lead to the fact that over time, new metropolitan cities may emerge. Scientists have calculated that in about two decades this number could double. For example, Japan may be an example, to be more precise, its eastern coast, where a characteristic unification takes place. The same formations can be seen in Germany on the Rhine coast around Dusseldorf and Cologne, as well as on the coast of California.

About the suburbs

Knowing that a metropolis is a connection of several cities, it is interesting that such neoplasms can arise due to the expansion of suburbs. Such a policy of development is still seen mainly in the cities of the United States, and Los Angeles scientists generally nicknamed the prototype of the city of the future. Why is that? Everything is simple, if for the time being suburban areas are created mainly for a quiet family life, in the course of time such units are planned to be moved to a part of enterprises and organizations so that a person can work, live, study and have fun without resting outside his district.

About Psychology

Proceeding from the aforesaid, it is possible to create to itself representation about concept "megacity": what is it such and by what principle such formations are created. However, there is one more perspective, in which one can consider such a large city. This is the psychological component of life there. What does it mean? It's not a secret for anyone that only in a big city you can find an occupation to your liking and self-actualization (basically it concerns people creative and purposeful). In such cities you can do anything, you can realize all your bold ideas and beginnings. Such cities welcome non-ordinary, bright, non-standard thinking. However, it should be said that a person who is weak, used to a steady pace of life there will be difficult to survive. After all, in a metropolis time and space are marvelously transformed, acquiring a new framework. And only a strong person can get used to it . The positive and at the same time negative side of the megalopolis is the fact that no one here pays any attention to people, people do not care what a person does, what he is wearing and what his thinking is (by the way, this is more often the case with provincials who came to conquer a large City, at a dead end). But it is also difficult to wait for help, everyone for himself, all people are fighting for their own place in the sun on their own. Also, in a metropolis, you can always find a workplace even when, it would seem, everything has already been lost, there is always a shortage of workers, especially in the service areas.
