Turbot fish: why is it so appreciated?
Fish turbot belongs to the detachment of flatfish and is a species of radiant fish. Sometimes it is called a "big diamond" or "sea pheasant". Dwells in the waters of the Black, Mediterranean, Baltic and North Seas, also it can be found in the Atlantic Ocean. Turbo is a very valuable commercial fish.
Appearance
Turbo fish has an interesting look. The body is high, the eyes are located only on the left side. The bottom part is white, and the upper one has the color of the environment, which is a good way of masking. Also, the upper part does not have scales, but there are bony projections. The body is practically round in shape, can reach in length from 50 to 70 cm, sometimes up to 1 m. This fish is commercial.
Turbo is a very active predatory fish, feeding on small fish and shellfish. Often it can be found buried in the bottom layer.
Types of turbot
Depending on where the fish swims, it is divided into:
- Sea;
- Oceanic.
The most valuable is the Mediterranean and oceanic species, because these individuals are larger in size than others. Therefore, the price of such a fish will be high. Fish turbot, caught in the Baltic Sea, a bit like the Atlantic variety. Black Sea is noticeably inferior to all the rest - its meat has a grayish shade and a taste of tine with iodine.
A close relative of the turbot is the "Smooth Diamond". But unlike its relative, the body is oval in shape and its color is gray or brown with small specks of white that become larger in size, approaching the edges. The fins are pale and have dark brown spots. The body is asymmetric and strongly flattened laterally. The range of this species is the same as that of turbot. A smooth rhombus is a predatory fish.
When is it better to catch a turbo
It should be remembered that this fish is not grown in an artificial environment, it can only be found in a natural habitat. It is recommended to catch it in late autumn and in winter. Because the temperature of the water becomes colder, the more saturated the taste of the fish will be. During this period, the water environment is cleaner, and in spring and summer turbulence begins in turbos.
Reproduction
Turbo is chosen for the fertilization of the waters of the North and Baltic seas in the spring-summer period. Females leave 10-15 million eggs at a depth of 10 to 40 m. About a week later, fry appears from the eggs.
How to determine the quality of turbot
Since this species is a deep predator, then by the color of its upper part it is possible to determine in which aquatic environment it was located. If the color is dark with a greenish or gray tinge, then it lives in the ooze, therefore, there will be a taste of tine. If light, the fish swam in a marine environment with a sandy bottom, and the taste of it will be clean, refined.
Also, freshness can be determined by one specific property: unlike other varieties, qualitative turbo will be covered with a transparent slime with a slightly greyish tint. The eyes of fresh fish will be convex and glow from the inside, the gills will be reddish and there will be a smell of iodine.
Fishing value of turbo
Turbo is considered one of the most valuable fish, thanks to its excellent taste qualities, as well as a large content of substances beneficial to human health. It is very well tolerated by the cold, so if you freeze it by all rules, it will retain all its useful properties.
You can cook it in almost any way, but preference is given to baking, roasting, cooking and quenching. Almost all the world uses identical methods of cooking turbot. A good side dish for fish will be vegetables, cooked on the grill. Particular attention should be given sauces - they should be light, best if they are based on dry white wine.
Commercial fishes: their use and protection
Fisheries are an important for the human industry, because fish occupies an important place in the diet. But this does not mean that constant fishing in the same places will not affect the number of individuals in any way. To prevent the disappearance of certain species of fish, we must correctly approach their catch.
It is noticed that if you catch adult individuals to a certain age, then the number of fish increases. This is due to the fact that youngsters have more opportunities for growth, which leads to an increase in the number of fish. Therefore, the minimum age from which it is allowed to fish is established, and it should be higher than the one at which it spawns.
Fishing catch is conducted by networks, so a certain size of cells is set so that young people do not accidentally get on the network. If it turns out that more was caught than planned, then for some period fishing is prohibited at this place.
It is very important to preserve the spawning grounds of fish, to build special migratory dams, and, of course, we need to fight water pollution. An important solution for the protection of fish is the construction of hatcheries, on which young animals are grown in large quantities, which contributes to the growth of the fish population.
Fishing fishes - their use and protection - are important issues from the ecological point of view. Although the turbo does not belong to a species that is threatened with extinction, nevertheless, the above rules are also used when fishing, so that the population remains at an acceptable level. Every year, the network receives about 3,000 tons of this expensive and delicious fish. And the catch on such a scale does not greatly affect the number of turbo fish.
